Uromastyx alfredschmidti is the scientific name for Schmidt's spiny-tailed lizard which is native to Northern Africa. The lizard is a threatened species due to loss of habitat.
It lives in rocky desert areas and is a herbivore mainly with an occasional bug thrown in.

Looks very impressive I must say.
Yvonne.
I wondered what you'd do for U! I realize I DO know uromastyx! Not that endangered kind, but ones as pets. I've owned mammals, birds, fish, hissing cockroaches, hermit crabs... but never a reptile. A few have tempted me. I do admire their beauty.
He is really quite pretty with the bright orange in his skin. I wonder if his bite is nasty
Mike,
I'd say the bright orange skin provides good camouflage for the rocky dessert areas in Africa. It surely would stick out like a sore thumb if it found itself in the eastern U.S.
