Monday's Music Moves Me: School Songs

This week's theme is songs related to school. So let's get started..

"Schools Out for Summer"  by Alice Cooper

I know it is the wrong season for that song. However when I think of songs related to school that jumps out at me.

Here is a gem, Steely Dan's "My Old School"

Supertramp "School"

Nirvana "School"

The next one makes a reference to school and is for fitting for the season.

Rod Stewart "Maggie May"

Until next time enjoy!

Monday's Music Moves Me: Country Tribute

It's Monday already? Wow that was fast. Time certainly flies bye quickly. I have been wanting to do tribute posts for a couple of Country music stars who passed away recently and just haven't fund the time to do so. Well with this week's Monday Music Moves Me being a freebie the time is right.

Troy Gentry

Troy Gentry passed away on September 8th in a helicopter crash. He was part of the duo Montgomery Gentry.

"Something to Be Proud Of"

"Back When I Knew It All"

Don Williams

Don Williams passed away on September 8, 2017 in Mobile , Alabama. Small world, I went to Mobile on September 9th. Williams was very influential and had 17 number one hits.

His last number one hit "Heartbeat in the Darkness"

His first number one hit "I Wouldn't Want to Live if You Didn't Love Me"

I hope both of these Country Stars rest in peace.

Battle of the Bands: When the Levee Breaks

Storms to the left Irma and storms to the right Harvey plus some showers have me thinking of the classic song "When the Levee Breaks" made famous by Led Zeppelin. It is on the famous fourth album. It rocks, I heard it once at a rain delay at a baseball stadium and the drums really came through. I'm avoiding that version.

Contender One: The Original Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie

Contender Two: Alison Krauss

Vote for the one you like the best  in the comments and I will be back in a week or so with results. If you are looking for more battles check the master list here. I'll be back with a new post soon.

Monday Music Moves Me: 9.11

Running late on this one. I always try to remember 9.1 on my blog. Monday Music Moves Me allows me to give a musical twist to that tribute.

Everyone in this blog hop probably has this Alan Jackson song..

How about this National Anthem performed for the first time after 9.11 at Shea Stadium in New York..

Sang by Marc Anthony.

I think on a day like today less is more.

R.I.P Walter Becker

Guitarist, songwriter, musician and half of the legendary duo "Steely Dan" Walter Becker passed away yesterday ( 09/03/17) at the age of 67.

                                                 "Reelin' in the Years"

Perhaps my favorite Steely Dan tune is "Hey Nineteen"

Here is a solo song "Medical Science"

I was turned on to Steely Dan by a guitar teacher probably 25 years ago. There are connections to other musicians Larry Carlton, Michael McDonald and Boz Scaggs who were just minor degrees of separation from Steely Dan.

Performing "Josie" on Letterman, enjoy Walter Becker playing guitar..

The band left a catalog of amazing songs. May he rest in peace. I'll leave you with "Black Cow"

Monday's Music Moves Me:Labor Day Songs

Today's theme can do with Labor Day, Last Day of Summer or Freebie. I am going to stay with the Labor Day theme and do work songs. Labor equals work.

"Cumberland Blues" by the Grateful Dead

I think we are all "Workin' for a Livin'" tell us about it Huey Lewis and the News..

I guess I'll call you "The Working Man" or woman..

We could all become musicians. I've heard it is easy as fishing and I like fishing.

"Takin' Care Of Business" B.T.O style..

Lynyrd Skynyrd sings about how it was "Workin' for MCA"

Well I got to work today. So I'm gonna go..."Bang on the Drum All Day"

I hope you enjoy and I will be back with a new post soon!

Battle of the Bands Results: Three Way Tie

I think I went away from everything I was ever advised to do on my last Battle of the Bands. Don't have the original band in the completion. I included them. Don't mix studio and live tracks. Phish was a live track.  Limit the choices to two, I had three. Of course some of those where from the days when Battle of the Bands was bigger. I miss a lot of those bloggers.

It would be neat to have a Battle of the Bands reunion. I know some have probably left blogging all together. Oh I digress and ramble into other things. The results that is what you want. A three way tie.

Little Feat "Rock and Roll Doctor"

Phish  "Lawn Boy"

Van Halen "Dreams"..

The Blue Angels are my neighbors and it features Sammy so it is a good pick for me.

I will be back on the 15th with a new battle. I have two weeks to think of something!
