Battle of the Bands Results: The winner was The Band

I dropped off the blogosphere for most of this month. My Dad had health issues, my car died, just to add to my normal dose of life. So I did one Battle of the Bands this month. Johnny Cash and Joni Mitchell couldn't sway the audience. The Band won handily 6 to 1. Not a shut out.

I hope it was worth the wait. Here is "The Weight"

"The Shape I'm In"

Well tomorrow is April. A fool's day. Perhaps a new battle, the A to Z.

R.I.P Joe Diffie

I bcame a pickup man earlier in this crazy month so I officially became a "Pickup Man."

Sadly Joe Diffie passed away due to COVID-19. Joe was Country Music hitmaker, a Grammy Award winning musician.

He wasn't "Bigger Than The Beatles"

A lot of us are staying "Home"

On "The Third Rock from the Sun"

"If The Devil Danced (In Empty Pockets"

He will be missed may he R.I.P.

R.I.P Kenny Rogers

Away from the laptop I am writing this post so I may have to revisit and edit later. Kenny Rogers the Country singer legend and sometime actor has passed away at the age of 81.

His death was from natural causes and not related to the pandemic. Maybe a look back at his amazing career can help us all.

"Through the Years" is an appropriate starting point.

Of course there is "The Gambler"

"Coward of the County"

"The Greatest"

A few of my favorites? What are yours?

He will be missed but his songs will live on!

Blogging Break

Sorry no Battle of the Bands post this time around. March has come in like a lion and has nothing to do with the weather. So I wasn't able to do the last Battle of the Bands properly. (There is more than just writing the blog post). I also knew I wouldn't be able to do this one properly. So hopefully next time. Hopefully I will have some other posts up soon. So until next time may you be virus free, may all your Corona's be served cold and with a lime!

Monday's Music Moves Me: Songs That Have A Name in the Title

Well it is Monday afternoon so I will try to find some obscure ones. Monday's Music Moves Me and the theme is songs with a name in the title.

                                             Grateful Dead "Loose Lucy"

Could have done a whole post with Grateful Dead so many names Casey Jones, Cassidy, Tennessee Jed, Althea, Jack Straw and more.

Jimi Hendrix "Dolly Dagger"

Some one probably got this one "Alison" by Elvis Costello

Jimmy Buffet "Frank and Lola"

Jerry Garcia (away from the Dead) "Rueben and Cherise"

I will leave you with this earworm...

"Hey Mickey" from Toni Basil

See you again soon!

Battle of the Bands: Long Black Veil

I new the song from being on The Band's "Big Pink" album. The song came  back onto my radar after doing a Monday's Music Moves Me post about songs that tell a story. This story is about cheating,  a bad alibi, a false accusation, and a hanging. In other words just a regular day on Battle of the Bands.

It was a Country Ballad first recorded by Lefty Frizzell...

Might as well start off with my introduction to the song..

Contestant One: The Band

Contestant Two: Johnny Cash and Joni Mitchell

You know the drill vote for the one you like the best in the comments. Will it be  The Band of Johnny and Joni? Will it be a tie? You all determine that!  I just count up all the votes. Voting ends in a week or so.  Hope you enjoy and see you next time!
