A to Z: Prefer the paperback

I wonder if there are any paperback writers left. The Beatles probably thought there song was timeless.

We live in a digital age, books on PCs, Kindles and even Smart Phones. I most be old fashioned, out of date, perhaps even out of place.

Give me the old dog eared covered, yellowed page, paperback novel that even smells aged. Watch the dust when you open it!

Ah, the old adventures you will find where the typed words meet your imagination. The magic of the story within the vintage paperback.

Just remember the batteries never die in the old paperback.

What kind of books do you enjoy?

But ebooks are kind of like paperbacks. The idea of a paperback novel was that it would be tossed when done with. Originally, anyway.

Gimme paper over e-anything anytime. Yes, e-books are convenient and, I admit, I've found many beloved, and now out of print, titles in e-formats, favorites I read long ago and thought I'd never be able to read again. But, whenever I'm back in the Land of Plentiful Bookstores, you'll find me browsing the second-hand shelves looking for these very same titles—and if I find one, I'll buy it, whether I have an e-copy already or not. Yes, maybe we're retrogrades and luddites, whatever. For me, the pleasure of reading is intrinsically linked to the process of browsing the bookshelves, selecting one, feeling its heft in my hand, and settling with it on the sofa with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. No Kindle can ever even dream of comparing.

Thanks for the visit over at Quiet Laughter !

I like my ebooks. But I like paper, too (and try not to buy too much of it--that's what the library is for). And I publish my books in paper as well as ebooks. In part, that's because some are children's books--and kids are still getting up to speed with ebooks. And the others are cozy mysteries, and a lot of older women read those--another demographic that is still moving slowly toward ebooks. There's a place for everything, but when I travel, I love that I can load a dozen books on my e-reader and it doesn't weigh any more or take up any more space!

I love my books in print. I do however prefer hard cover to paperback.
