A to Z: Hemingway

Hemingway is my favorite classic author. I thought I had read all of his works but while checking things out I discovered there are a few I have missed. I hope they are good.

My two favorite Earnest Hemingway books are similar yet different. My favorite is "The Old Man and the Sea."



My second  favorite...



"Islands in the Stream" is more of deep track pick, However, it is more of that Tropical Adventure that I am drawn to like Benchley, Bob Morris and others.

Again doing this blog I found there is a movie version of the book, is it any good?





Not only has Hemingway influence authors I like he has influenced artists like Guy Harvey..

BOOK



More than likely I have blogged about this book before in the archives of this blog. This is the book which hooked me on the whole series, it is book one of five adventure filled mystery books. I am drawn to these tropical adventure style books from Hemingway, Peter Benchley, Jimmy Buffett and now Bob Morris. The adventure starts after the main character is released from prison in Florida and as one could guess it travels to the Bahamas. Murder, revenge, adventure,mystery and tropical locations it is all in this novel Bahamarama by Bob Morris.

BAND/ARTIST

So many and artists I could choose for this one. However, I will go with Billy Thompson who was a local artist living close to where I used to live. He had moved from California. The first time I heard him at a jam. My friend told me to check him out. I am blessed to have so many friends who can tell me who to check out musically. He didn't really grab me at the jam. However, he grabbed me the second time I heard him.

 I didn't know how good he was until I found out he played with Bill Payne a co-fonder of Little Feat and some of the finest side musicians in the business like Mike Finnegan. When I discovered how much talent was when I saw him playing solo in this bookstore/bar.

Baja Florida

A good year for reading I just finished my second Bob Morris book this year in his Zack Chasteen series.



In this book he goes out to help a friend find his daughter. The novel takes or hero from Florida to the Bahamas. Before long he is facing murder charges and more. It is a fun, tropical read. Short chapters, funny and fun and lots of actions. His books are  suspenseful and fun and hold my interest.

Bob Morris is an award winning travel writer, a journalist, and a great researcher and it shows in his fiction work. Add his expertise, with action, and humor and that is why I like his work.You can learn more about this author at his website.Now that I am caught up with this series I might read some of his other books.

January Reads: A Deadly Silver Sea

I mentioned before in my coming attractions I have been reading more. When I end up reading a lot I sometimes blog about what I have read. However, that seized when I wasn't really reading. Like I confessed before I am a manic reader.


Well I finally read the Bob Morris novel A Deadly Silver Sea. 

What can I say he hooked me in to his Zach Chasteen series of tropical adventure mysteries with his award winning first novel Bahamarama. Now I need to read his latest one Baja Florida. But my taste in tropical adventures run from Ernest Hemingway to Jimmy Buffett, and Peter Benchley so he kind of fits in well. \all of his books are well researched and I enjoy reading them.

This one our hero finds himself in a bad place when his pregnant wife and him go on a cruise ship which is taken over by terrorists. Rescues, explosions, danger on the high seas what is not to like?

I've probably forgotten a few, but anyway here is what I read in 2007. I read an interesting, spirtitial christian book about borders, was given to us as a gift from my priest by an Irish writer. In Our Time by Hemmingway. Kipling's Captain Courageous. Andrew Todhunter's Dangerous Games, Peter Benchley's A Sharks Life, Hermann Hesse's Demian which I really enjoyed, Nashville:1864 by Madison Jones which was an enjoyable quick read, Zim: A Baseball Life by Don Zimmer, Bode: Go Fast, Be Good, Have Fun by Bode Miller-hey, I am a skier, a couple of books by Bob Morris Bermuda Shwartz and Bahamarama- Caribean mysteries.

So, much for for shadowing, I still have a month and 2/3rds to add on to my ever growing list of 2008
