A Rocktober Nobel Prize

Rocktober continues as Bob Dylan has just won the Nobel Prize for literature.  I suddenly feel better read now that I have listened to his music. Bob Dylan is the first songwriter to win the Nobel Prize. He certainly has written some masterpieces which have been successful for him and the artists who have covered him. As a music fan I find him winning this award very exciting. I wonder which songwriters could be next to win the award.

Today is Bob's day and we salute him..."The Times They Are A Changin'"

"Tangled Up in Blue"..

"Don't Think Twice"...

I'm sure I might spotlight a song of his somewhere down the line on a Battle of the Bands. Right now it is just a quick celebration.

I was surprised but pleased to see that Dylan won the Nobel, the first American win in literature since Toni Morrison in 1993.

Love,
Janie

That's quite an honor for someone who has won pretty much everything else. I'm not surprised that Dylan is the first songwriter to win it. Not sure who the second would be...Bruce Springsteen? Joni Mitchell? Justin Bieber? haha

Although it's not really one of my favorites, I consider 'MR. TAMBOURINE MAN' to be the ONLY song in which the lyrics are GENUINE POETRY (and not just rhyming verse).

But the one that blew me away then, and continues to blow me away today, is 'IT'S ALRIGHT, MA (I'M ONLY BLEEDING)'. Just the rhyming pattern of that ALONE is brilliant, and that's even BEFORE you begin studying the lyrics themselves and try wrapping your mind around the genius of them.

Dylan was the most innovative and influential song lyricist who's ever lived and if ANY songwriter was going to get a Nobel Prize for Literature, it would HAVE to be him.

I heard about this. Surprising, but kind of nice.
