Blogging from A to Z April Challenge: Y is for Yellow-bellied Slider Turtle

 The reptile for Y is a pretty common turtle called the Y is for Yellow-bellied Slider Turtle. Not only is it common in it's native range the southeastern United States it is also a popular pet.

I am not familiar with the yellow-bellied slider. They look a lot like the red-eared, but for the red ears. Those poor little fellas were sold everywhere to everyone in dime stores in the 60s. Few survived. I had a few, but my parents got a tank and heat lamp and all, so mine fared a bit better.

I remember when I was in grade school, I began noticing that the only time I'd ever see a turtle was in the warmer months and frequently trying to cross the road. That's when I began searching for them every time we got into the car. :)
