Battle of the Bands: Come Monday

It has been a while since I last posted a Battle of the Bands, heck up until late Summer it had been a while since I posted anything. Hopefully some folks will visit and leave a vote in the comments. I will back in a week or so and do a post on the winner just like the Battle of the Bands of old.

Well, it is Labor Day the ceremonial farewell to summer. Don't worry the Calander still says we have a few more weeks of official summer. I live in the Sunshine so I will have Summer like weather until October. Today's pick was easy to go with Jimmy Buffett and his song "Come Monday."

Alright don't vote for the original. Instead vote for one of the one's below.

Contender 1: Kenney Chesney

Contender 2: Brandi Carlile

Vote in the comment on which one you like the best! I think I am going to go hiking in the Sunshine. Enjoy your holiday and I will see you soon!

R.I.P Jerry Jeff Walker

Jerry Jeff Walker a songwriter, Country Music performer, and an artist who has appeared on my Battle of Bands posts a few times has passed away.

Most recently I used his song "Trashy Woman" and he lost a battle with Alan Jackson and Jimmy Buffett on a Guy Clark cover.

He is best known for writing this classic tune..."Mr. Bojangles"

Some of us are just "Gettin' By

Here he performs a song he wrote with Jimmy Buffett "Railroad Lady"

He left behind a bunch of songs, I'm sure there are plenty of stories out there too. He will be missed by his fans, fellow musicians, family and friends.

Battle of the Bands Results: Trying to Reason with Hurricane Season

Well I rode out Sally! Was a long night when the category two hurricane hit. I was fortunate the flooding at my house only flooded the yard. The house and truck were spared. Plenty of limbs and branches covered my yard and clean up was quite a task, however I was blessed that none damaged the house or my truck. Just one big limb from one of the tall Live Oak trees could have really ruined my day. The biggest issue was loss of power. 95% of my county lost power including me. We just got power back late Sunday afternoon, so five days of cold showers, no air condition, no reliable internet (cell phone was still spotty for internet). However, I spent about 5 hours helping cleanup at the church and I did check on somebody's elderly parents. I will probably help a few more folks with their cleanup this week. So if I didn't make it to your Battle I apologize, Sally came to visit and she was rather rowdy company!

Anyway my Battle of the Bands for the 15th featured Kenny Chesney versus Mishka covering Jimmy Buffet's "Trying to Reason with Hurricane Season."

Kenny took an early lead. It looked like a shutout early. Mishka did get a couple of votes late to make the final score 5 to 2.

Here is Kenny Chesney performing the song with Jimmy Buffett at a concert I was at a few years back.

Since it is Fall now and football season "The Boys of Fall"

I always liked this one "Young"

"There Goes My Life"

.
I will be back hopefully with another Battle of the Bands and hopefully will not be dealing with another hurricane.

Monday's Music Moves Me: Hurricane Songs

Today's theme on Monday's Music Moves Me is a freebie and I am going to go with a Hurricane Theme.  Just to fill everyone my area was hit by a category two hurricane. I rode the storm out. The flooding was quick to recede at my house and the storm left plenty to clean up in the yard. I am blessed the house wasn't damaged or my truck. I just got power back yesterday after five days.

Neil Young "Like a Hurricane"

Bob Dylan "Hurricane"

Jimmy Buffett and Kenny Chesney  "Trying to Reason with Hurricane Season"

Anyway it is nice to have power and to be blogging again!

Battle of the Bands: Trying to Reason with Hurricane Season

Sally is churning just offshore. I hear the pouring rains and gusting winds outside. As I write this sustained winds are about 33 mph. As I left work this alert popped on my phone...

I guess I am just "Trying to Reason with Hurricane Season"....

Well you know how it works, I find two contenders and you tell me which one you like the best in the comments. I count the votes and announce the winner in a separate post.

Contender One: Kenny Chesney

Contender Two:  Mishka

Well I am going to get ready for work and venture out in this mess. I hope you enjoy and I'll see you soon!

A to Z: Covid 19 Blues

Once Corona was a beer. Open a cold bottle slide a wedge a lime inside. Used to be Jimmy Buffett's beer till he bought Landshark.

Of all the things it could be it turned into a virus, all that pent up anger I guess.

It could have been "Corinna" and Taj Mahal would sing about it...

Are you sure it's not Corvid 19, the Black Crowes did just get back together..

Maybe they are the "Remedy."

Yes Covid 19 is serious. It has spread the world faster than a "Love Trrain"

People have died. People have gotten very sick. Pretty much everything has been closed down. Hope is what we got. Hope for a vaccine. Hope that it will pass.

See you something for D

                                              News of his passing...

He fell short of reaching his 104th birthday by 10 days. He certainly lived a long life.

Here he speaks of his faith...

Here is the first part of Jimmy Buffett paying tribute to Herman a few years back..

He will be missed. However, he did leave us with some great reads.

Monday's Music Moves Me: Freebie Monday Songs

It's been nearly a month since I did a Monday's Music Moves Me post. I misplaced my dancing shoes and I think I can come up with something. After all it is a freebie week so I can pick my own theme.

I'm going to pick Monday Songs and let's go!

I hope today isn't just another "Manic Monday"....

The Bangles starting us off.  But maybe it will be a "Blue Monday" as suggested by New Order...

The Mamas and Papas "Monday, Monday" well yes it is..

Jimmy Buffett has some Monday plans with "Come Monday"..

The Carpenters singing about "Rainy Days and Mondays"...

Sometimes those are one in the same. T-Bone Walker sang "Just Call it Stormy Monday"

Well stay dry, keep your Monday under control and no matter what color your Monday is remember it is better with music. Please check out the rest of the 4m blogs here.
