Battle of the Bands: Eight Miles High

David Crosby passed away earlier this year. I thought I would pay tribute to him with a song like I did Jeff Beck last go around. A song from Crosby, Stills and Nash would make sense, but I thought I would go farther back to The Byrds. A group Cros founded and pick a song he co-wrote.

The Byrds "Eight Miles High"

Contender One: Roxy Music

Contender Two: Tom Petty &The Heartbreakers

Tell me who you like best in the comments Roxy Music or Tom Petty and I will close the polls around the 8th and announce a winner.

R.I.P David Crosby

David Crosby a founder of The Byrds and Crosby, Stills and Nash has passed away at the age of 81. An important figure in the musical landscape of the 60s. He also had a solo career as well and a career that spanned into seven decades.

                                           "I Won't Stay for Long" from 2021

"Turn! Turn! Turn" from The Byrds

"Our House" from Crosby, Stills and Nash

"In the Wide Ruin" another solo song

He will be missed by his family, friends, and peers. His music will live on.

Battle of the Bands Results: Don Henley Rallies to Defeat David Crosby

Again my Battle of the Bands went down to the very last vote. In a See-Saw affair David Crosby took a 3 to 2 lead but the final two votes went for Don Henley as he rallied for the win! I'm glad I got to share a good tune from a songwriter I like. I'm happy it turned into a close battle and nobody really hated the song.

Here he is with "The Boys of Summer"

"Leather and Lace" with Stevie Nicks..

"The Heart of the Matter"

Stay tuned a new Battle is coming on the 15th!

Battle of the Bands: Through Your Hands

A new month, a new Battle of the Bands and even a new song. The song I am picking today comes from one of my favorite songwriters, John Hiatt.

                                              "Through Your Hands"

                                               Contender One: Don Henley

                                               Contender Two: David Crosby

A great song, two high profile singers I think I did my job on this Battle. Now I need you to decide the winner with your vote in the comments. I will count up the votes and announce the winner before the next battle. I hope you enjoy the song!

Crosby, Stills and Nash

I just finished writing a preview for tonight's Crosby, Stills and Nash show at Wolf Trap which you can read here. If you are a fan of the band check out the attached slide show with the article though I can't take credit for the photographs.

I have been lucky enough to see Crosby, Stills and Young twice even though it was like 20 years apart. Funny thing it was at the same venue Wolf Trap. Anyway the last time I watched them I reviewed the show for DC Metro Theater Arts and you can relive the show through my review.

Yes, if you read my blog you know I like to add extras. I am digging some extras to add to this post like this..

That was the encore from the show I reviewed. Below is a song they performed in March of this year..

And one of my favorite songs by them..

If you are going to the show tonight enjoy! If you catch them on the tour I hope you enjoy! If not I hope you enjoyed your visit to my blog.

Crosby, Stills and Nash

The last time I was able to see Crosby, Stills and Nash was about 20 years ago. Wow, that makes me feel old. I walked away thinking Stephen Stills might be one of the most under rated guitarists. After seeing them again I still thing that may be true. Even though their voices may not be what they used to be, they still have plenty of moments and put on a great show. You can read my review here.

Here is a performance of Almost Cut My Hair from the concert I reviewed, thanks to youtube...

Here is the encore from that show..

The backing band was pretty solid. The guitarist has played with Bruce Springsteen, the drummer had played with David Gilmour, and the bass player had played with Jackson Browne. They played a couple of newer songs, a couple of deep tracks, and lots of favorites.

Including my favorite Crosby, Stills and Nash song "Southern Cross" here is the video..

I am having a great year of concerts seeing a bunch of diverse musicians. As long as the power stays on I will be blogging and sharing I hope you enjoy!
