Happy Birthday Eric Clapton

Today Eric Clapton turns 77 today.  In celebration we are just going to stick with music.

"Louise" with the Yardbirds live in 1964

Cream "White Room" live in 1968

Blind Faith "Can't Find My Way Home" live 1969

Derek and the Dominos "Got to Get Better in a Little While"

Eric Clapton "Pretending"

I think this was a career spanning celebration of Slowhand on his birthday.

A to Z Challenge: Fishing

I was going to go Mardi Gras this year but I was a slacker on booking my hotel room. When I finally got around to it hotel room prices were sky high in the Big Easy. I new the prices were gonna be jacked up. They are for Jazz Fest too. I was expecting Jazz Fest style pricing and I still had price shock. I missed a parade or two, a show at Tipitina's and apparently a good opportunity to catch Covid-19. I went another direction, literally. New Orleans is three hours West, I went four hours East and South. Spent a night in "a storied hotel" for $50. It was a small, Southern town, that was nothing like Carnival in New Orleans. I never figured out what was so storied about the hotel. I think I fell asleep before I even cracked the cover. As the picture above shows I had things to catch.

Tab Benoit "Sac Au Lait Fishing"

I combine music and fishing. Tab Benoit the last musician I saw in New Orleans when I was there for New Years!

The past year a lot of the lyrics kinda fits my life...

"Don't Ask Me No Questions" Lynyrd Skynryd

"If you want to talk fishin'
I guess that would be okay."

Brad Paisley "I'm Gonna Miss Her"

By the time it was all said and done my face was redder than that redfish!

There you go a fish tale and a few songs!

Happy Birthday Neil Young

Neil Young's birthday is today! Choosing songs to celebrate should be due to the 74 year old's variety of music!

Well he is the "Old Man" now...

Buffalo Springfield

"Mr. Soul"

Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young "Southern Man"

Neil Young "Cinnamon Girl"

I think a nice four song is a good way to celebrate. He has a ton of great songs so just a taste from here and there.

Rocktober Music Fest Celebrating Tom Petty's Birthday

Celebrating Birthday's of Late Rock and Rollers is where I am in this Rocktober Music Fest. Tom Petty who passed away two years ago in October would have celebrated his 68th birthday today. I paid tribute to his passing here and I have celebrated his birthday before.

Try to do it different each time, different songs and different words. I try not to do repeats but I don't think my readers would mind.

                                            Mudcrutch "I Forgive it All"

Right off the back I am digging up Mudcrutch.

Tom Petty "I Won't Back Down"

The Traveling Wilbury's "Handle with Care"

Tom Petty "A Face in the Crowd"

I hope you enjoyed and I will be back with a new post soon!

Happy Birthday Nina Simone!

I've had a bit of a Black History Month theme going on my blog this month. Some of it planned and somethings were added due to life events.

Today is Nina Simone's birthday and she is an artist who certainly deserves to be celebrated during Black History Month.

Starting the music with this civil rights era tune..

She is probably best known for this song..

Nina Simone was awarded a lifetime Grammy Award and was nominated for several other Grammys

Ain't Got No..

What's your favorite Nina Simone song? Feel free to share in the comments. Thanks for visiting I will have a new post soon.

Today is Smokey Robinson's 76th birthday! I celebrated his 75th birthday last year with this post.  I am also featuring one of his songs in my current Battle of the Bands post. There is still time to vote if you like!

Five years ago, I had the honor of reviewing his performance at the Kennedy Center. It was for a charity event and Robinson still gave a full show. You can read my review here.

Happy Birthday Taylor Swift

It is hard to believe the musical empire that is Taylor Swift is just turning 27. Obviously she still has her youthful good looks. Her music might not be your cup of tea but she is undeniably a musical empire.

She has amassed a net worth over a quarter million dollars. A ten year career with five albums. Her award list is amazing. Highlighted with 10 Grammy Awards and 23 Billboard Music Awards.

This song off her debut album caught my attention....

In an era of declining album sales, Swift has sold over 40 million albums.

Here is her song "Shake it Off:

and "You Belong to Me"..

Ryan Adams covered her latest album 1989 in his own style..

Just saying I am not the only one taking note of Taylor Swift and Ryan Adams comes from a different side of the music world.

What's your favorite Taylor Swift song? Feel free to share in the comments. Thanks for visiting and I will be back soon with a new post.

Happy Birthday Nikki Sixx!

Nikki Sixx turns 58 today! He is best known for being a bass player and songwriter in the rock band Motley Crue.

Though today you may have heard about him via his syndicated radio show called "The Sixx Sense." I have listened to it. Not bad for radio.

His current band is Sixx: A.M..

He is also the author of

The Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock Star and

This Is Gonna Hurt: Music, Photography and Life Through the Distorted Lens of Nikki Sixx. I have heard The Heroin Diaries is quite good.

Product Details

I would say he is doing alright and I will wish him a Happy Birthday!
