R.I.P Bunny Wailer

 Neville O' Riley Livingston  passed away yesterday at the age of 73. He was better known as Bunny Wailer, a pioneer of reggae and a founder of The Wailers. Besides playing with Bob Marley and Peter Tosh  Bunny also won three Grammy Awards.

Today is Bob Marley's birthday is reason enough to celebrate his birthday. If you are reading this from a colder climate the tropical vibrations of his music might warm you up. It would be appropriate to celebrate his music and legacy as part of Black History month. I enjoy his positive music, it is music I can share with my child without having to worry about lyrics on most songs. He could write spiritual, political, and songs with so much meaning. I could go on but really his music speaks volumes!"

I kept the theme of love on the songs. One I love his music. It is February and Valentine's Day is around the corner and love will be on the minds of many. Marley's music also reminds of the different types of loves and love for different things. I hope you enjoyed these positive vibrations and I will have another post soon!

Celebrating Curtis Mayfield on his Birthday

Today Curtis Mayfield would have turned 72 except he passed away in 1999. It was Jeff Beck and Rod Stewart's version of "People Get Ready" that turned me on to Curtis Mayfield. Though Bob Marley would have gotten me to the same reference play adding parts of the song on "One Love." If not someone else on the long list of musicians he influenced would have turned me on to his music. A list that includes Hendrix, Clapton, Kravitz, and John Mayer. In Mayer's case just listen to "Waiting on the World to Change."

A to Z: Charles Town

Let's not confuse Charles Town with Charleston. Charles Town is the largest city in Jefferson County in West Virginia. It is also very close to where I live thus I frequent it very often. If you are a regular reader of my blog it is the town that I volunteer at the cold weather shelter.

The biggest thing in Charles Town is the horse racing track and casino. The casino features slots and table games. They also have free concerts from time to time...

It isn't the only place to hear live music in Charles Town. One of my favoriute places to listen to music is Beasley's Books and Eccentrics. It is a book store, with a bar in the middle of it, and when you hear someone play there it is like listening to them in the comfort of your living room..

Above is a picture of Billy Thompson, whoi is one of the area's best blues guitar players. He is really a regional if not national talent who just happens to make his home near me. He is played all over in festivals, clubs like the famous Blues Alley in Washington.

Okay the town isn't all about music and gambling though that does sound kind of fun. Of course it would be better if you were winning at the gambling and the music was great. 

There are other fun things that go on in Charles Town like the farmer's market, parades and the festival..

Happy Birthday Bob Marley!

I was going to blog about something else, but it is Bob Marley's birthday today. I want to celebrate the positive vibe of his legacy. I love his positive music and I enjoy reggae music. I never had the chance to see Bob Marley in concert. This past year I was able to see The Wailers and I watched his son Stephen Marley at Wanee the year before. I blogged about him last year on his birthday, you can read that here.I have some videos there. Let's celebrate the music I will post different videos on this one.

Just songs..

Just a few songs for the way I feel. Sometimes there is a lot of smoke and mirrors. There are things in my world not going the way I would like and then there are things in the world that aren't going well too. So, I thought I would share some songs. Perhaps a bit of musical therapy for me. I hope you enjoy.

This song I heard for the first time in the Wine Country of California. At the time a relationship had gone sour and I heard this on public radio. Northern California Public Radio sounded pretty cool back then. It kind of fits for the way I feel tonight. The situation is a little different but I could use a little Hope..

This song from Tom Petty grabbed me when I heard it. Again another good fit for tonight...

When in doubt always go with Bob Marley. His music always provides those positive vibrations...

31 years ago...The Legacy of Bob Marley

I have a lot of Bob Marley related stuff happening in my life next week. However, it was 31 years ago today Bob Marley passed away. To me is the Elvis of Reggae music, the king of the genre. I like the positive vibe of his music. I'm a fan of reggae ( I like a lot of music, if you haven't guessed). I have been to reggae festivals in clubs in Washington, D.C. that are no longer there. I've seen Stephen Marley perform which was incredible.Unfortunately Bob Marley passed away before I got a chance to see him. Great lyrics, good vibrations, plus the flavor of the Islands what's not to like..

Anyway this isn't my first post about Bob Marley and it won't be my last. However to remember him on his day here is some footage from his funeral...

He survived being shot only to die due to cancer(yet another reason for me to dislike cancer)

A quick post today. Most people have heard of Pink Floyd and a lot know Roger Waters as a vocalist, bassist, co-founder of the band.He has also released some solo efforts which have featured such guitarists as Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck.

I've been hooked on Bob Marley ever since I heard his music. As I've grown older and had a family I like his music even more as it is positive vibrations. Happy Birthday Bob I hoe you Rest in Peace!

Don Kirshner Rest in Peace

In 2010 it appears big names behind the music scene are passing away. First Pat Moran the producer died now Don Kirshner a rock publicist has passed away. Here is a link to an AP article on his death.


Kirshner had something to do with The Archies, The Monkees, Neil Diamond, Carole King and Neil Sedaka. He had a television show in the 70's. Historic Films stated his show "ROCK CONCERT is to the 1970s what THE ED SULLIVAN SHOW was to the 1950s-60s. "The Rolling Stones. Led Zeppelin, The Eagles, The Sex Pistols, Sly and the Family Stone, REO Speedwagon, Kiss, Jackson Browne, Bob Marley, Black Sabbath, Rod Stewart and more all appeared on the show. Pretty much a big list of all the stars of that era performed on the show. A show before MTV.


Now MTV, VH1 don't play as much music. I am sure his show was better than American Idol...
