February Reads: Business Books

February is just ending and I have already read more books in 2016 than I did in all of 2015. So far this month I have read four and I am almost finished with another. I am breaking up the posts by classifications starting with Business.

I read two business books this month and I am up to three for the year. My educational background is in business so it makes sense that I would try to stay well read on the subject.

The first one was a Christmas gift from my wife. The book was written by rocker Gene Simmons of Kiss fame on the topic of entrepreneurship. The book was called Me, Inc.

I found the book to be an enjoyable read since I like to read biographies of musicians and business books. The target market seamed to be a bit younger than me.

My next business book was on management. This book had a unique perspective too! The perspective from the bible.

I enjoyed Myron Rush's book Management: A Biblical Approach and I found it was a great follow up to the business book I read in January by James C. Hunter. It is neat how books fit like that at times. As I try to meet my Goodreads Challenge of 26 books this year I will probably read a few more business books. My next segment on February reads will feature classics so stay tuned.

Results: Battle of New Orleans Ladies

Wayne Toups won my battle of the bands convincingly 11-4. A few of you thought Wayne Toups was more authentic perhaps because of the more Zydeco sound. Ironically Tab's version featured many of the members of LeRoux the band who originally did the song. Wasn't my intent but it was the only studio recording I could find.

Wayne Toups is an Award Winning artist. His Battle of the Bands victory certainly highlights a career with a Grammy Award, Gulf Coast Hall of Fame, Louisiana Hall of Fame, Cajun French Hall of Fame, and a few Offbeat Magazine Awards.

His accordion skills have been featured on Country megahits like Mark Chestnut's "It Sure is Monday" and Alan Jackson's "Little Bitty."

Here he is with "Take My Hand"....

"Please Explain"

The Battle was fun I got to share a song I like and you all got to vote on which one you liked best. I'll be thinking up a new battle for March 1st. In between feel free to drop in and see what else I might be blogging about.

Happy Birthday Smokey Robinson!

Today is Smokey Robinson's 76th birthday! There is no better way than to share the music of this incredible singer and songwriter.

Let's go "Cruisin'"...

"The Tracks of My Tears"...

"You Can Depend on Me"...

What's your favorite Smokey Robinson song? What's your favorite Smokey Robinson memory? Please feel free to share.

"Being with You"

I'll be back soon!

Olympic Gold: Shani Davis

I was searching for something to blog about today. I decided to search today's date February 18 in Black History since it is Black History Month. That's when I discovered Shani Davis a speed skater from Chicago.

On this date in 2006 he did something that no other Black athlete had ever done! Needless to say he was the first African American. As an American I am sure I was proud of his contribution to our medal count, the Speed Skater also won a Silver Medal in the 2006 Games.

Just 10 years ago Shani Davis made Black History. I hope he did could inspire others that they could make history in the future. Perhaps someone else could be the first in another event certainly someone will be next.

What Shani Davis did at the next Winter Olympics made history too! Yes he would Black Athlete to do his next feat. He became the first man of any race to successfully defend a Gold Medal in the 1000 meters race. He also earned another Silver in the 1500.

Shani Davis is a great American Olympian and perhaps his story might inspire you to go for the Gold!

Happy Birthday Michael Jordan

It was reported yesterday that Michael Jordan's net worth had reached the billion dollar mark. Today he turns 53 I suppose that is a great way to celebrate! Jordan rose to fame due to his basketball talents.

Ten of his top plays...

His Hall of Fame showcases his competitive nature..

Player, championships, endorsement magnet, to owner his career has been achievement after achievement. We wish him a Happy Birthday!

History of My Battle of the Bands

Back in Mid July of 2014 I kicked off my first Battle of the Bands with The Rolling Stones Dead Flowers pitting Townes Van Zandt against Samantha Fish. They tied and the ones got more vote for the win.

Battle of the Bands: New Orleans Ladies

Valentine's Day just passed so I thought for this Battle of the Bands I would bring out things that I love. This one actually came to me before the 15th and isn't  a result of somebody passing away. The song has been around for a long time, I just discovered it a couple of years ago and a few miles southwest of New Orleans. I discovered it at a festival I loved which supported a cause I love. I also  loved the musicians performing. Enough with the love fest an let the battle begin!

The rules are simple I pick a song and present a couple of bands battling it out with the song. You pick the one you like best by casting your vote in the comments. Why you voted the way you did and other comments are always welcomed.
