R.I.P Joe Morgan

 Baseball great Joe Morgan has passed away. Many considered Joe Morgan one of the best second baseman to ever play baseball. Joe enjoyed a Hall of Fame career and was a big part of the Big Red Machine of the 70s. The argument for Joe to be considered one of the best second baseman could start with being named a 10-time All Star. His five Gold Glove awards help.       

He was on two World Series winning teams. He was the National League MVP in both Championship seasons.  His number has been retired by the  Cincinnati Reds. He was elected  the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1990.

The Trade Deadline: One of Baseball's Interesting Days

Today is Major League Baseball's trade deadline. Sure trades can happen after the deadline but players need to pass through waivers. This is the time of year for the blockbuster trades.

The Toronto Blue Jays traded for David Price an ace pitcher for the Detroit Tigers. Highlights from 2014..

The San Francisco Giants traded for a Mike Leake a starting pitcher with a 9-5 record with the Cincinnati Reds.

The Giants and Braves were involved in a huge trade. Cole Hamels from the Philadelphia Phillies was traded in an eight player deal with the Texas Rangers..

October Baseball

This has been one of the greatest post seasons for baseball. I could be biased, I do have a family connection to the San Francisco Giants and two local teams to me the Baltimore Orioles and the Washington Nationals were in the playoffs as well.

I think it all started on the last day of the regular season when the Oakland A's over took the Texas Rangers to win that division.

Then every divisional series came down to the wire going 5 games...

The New York Yankees beat their division rival Baltimore Orioles 3 games to 2...here are highlights from a game the O's win but the Yankees would win the series

Then the Detroit Tigers eliminated the Oakland A's 3 games to 2. In this series Detroit won the first two, then the A's won 2 before the Tigers won the last one.

Then the St. Louis Cardinals broke the Washington Nationals hearts in game five rallying back from a 5-1 deficit to win the series..

The San Francisco Giants lost the first two games to the Cincinnati Reds and had to win the last three to advance to the Championship series..

Okay the Detroit Tigers swept the New York Yankees to advance to the World Series..

Not much drama in that series.

The St. Louis Cardinals had a 3 game to 1 lead on the Giants but San Francisco won the next three in a row to advance to the World Series..

I'm looking forward to the World Series between the Detroit Tigers and San Francisco Giants, hoping for one more great series in 2012!

Sparky Anderson

Sparky Anderson has passed away. Baseball fans may remember him from managing the great Cincinnati Red teams of the 70's known as "The Big Red Machine." I was a bit young then so I remember him as the manager who led the Detroit Tigers to the World Series in 1984.

Sad news, he was 76 years old. Sad news after posting good news about the World Series and about Beau being signed to the Braves. I wrote an article about Sparky Anderson if you would like to read  it you can here.

I wasn't planning to blog about baseball today. I've been busy writing lots of poetry today. Published somethings on Helium for the first time. I had some more articles published on Yahoo. However, sometimes other things come by that are more important.
