Ironically I am following this morning. I see all my blogging friends are doing the Monday's Music Moves Me thing. Well here I am.

Let's start this thing!

Shangri-La's "Leader of the Pack"

B.B. King "Paying the Cost to be the Boss"

Jimmy Reed "Big Boss Man"

Not to be sexist, woman can be the boss. Mick Jagger "She's the Boss"

To tie this in with Valentine's Day that just passed

Papa Roach "Leader of Broken Hearts"

Hope you enjoyed and I will see you soon!

Monday's Music Moves Me: Unconventional Duets

Welcome to another episode of Monday's Music Moves Me. This a bloghop. If you want to see who else is playing or sign up to join the fun you can visit this site. I hope your minds are open to let your feet dance in this genre bending and swapping event. Today's theme is unconventional duets. The theme was Stacy's idea.

Robert Plant and Alison Krauss

Robert Plant will always be known as the singer from the legendary rock group Led Zeppelin. Alison Krauss is gifted with a beautiful voice whose music falls in somewhere in the contemporary bluegrass, country, category. The two musicians came together for a platinum selling, multi-Grammy Award winning album.

"GONE, GONE, GONE"

U2 AND BB KING

U2, the Irish Rock Band who fills stadiums with their tours, is quite different from blues legend BB King. However, they got together for a few songs and had some success.

"When Love Comes to Town"

Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney

A Beatle and the King of Pop together.

"Say, Say, Say"

Is Paul McCartney and the surviving members of Nirvana more unconventional?

Paul and Nirvana

"Cut Me Some Slack"

Taylor Swift and Def Leppard

Taylor Swift went from a Country Artist to become a Pop Empire. Somewhere along the way she teamed up with these rockers...

"Pour Some Sugar on Me"

I could go on and on but I think I will leave you with these five.

Stevie Ray Vaughan: Gone 25 years

25 years ago today back on August 27, 1990 Stevie Ray Vaughan died in a helicopter crash and the world lost one  heck of a guitar player. It was a sad day for me and my music loving friends. Stevie Ray Vaughan was quite popular among the folks I hung out with. He was leading a blues rock revival and his music was frequently heard over the radio. I marked the 20th anniversary of his death with a simple blog post, My blogging skills progressed and I added another tribute the following year including him performing "Little Wing" and "Pride and Joy." You can visit that post here.

This time I would like to share a song his brother did as a tribute to Stevie called "Six Strings Down"..

Yes his brother Jimmie Vaughan is a good guitarist who I have seen with the Fabulous Thunderbirds and solo opening for the likes of Eric Clapton and B.B. King, However, he never reached the popularity of his younger brother Stevie Ray Vaughan. Stevie's passing was a "Cold Shot"...

I don't think there is another guitarist who could play Jimi Hendrix like Stevie Ray Vaughan. In a past post I shared Stevie performing "Little Wing." This time around I will share Stevie doing "Voodoo Chile"..

Let's keep the "House a Rockin'" as we celebrate the late Stevie Ray Vaughan..

I'm going to wrap this celebration with "Couldn't Stand the Weather"..

Thanks for visiting my Stevie Ray Vaughan celebration. I hope you enjoyed. What are your favorite Stevie Ray Vaughan songs? Memories? Feel free to share in the comments, I will be back soon with a new post.

Happy Birthday Buddy Guy!

This is the fourth year in a row I have celebrated Buddy Guy's birthday on the blog. With the passing of B.B. King I feel a bit more urgency to celebrate it a bit more. Here is a link to my first birthday tribute to him.

My second tribute is here. Here is last year's celebration. Adding them because they contain more music. Speaking of music let's add some in!

Here Buddy performs "I Can't Quit You" with the legendary B.B. King..

I can't quit the blues. I am thankful I was able to see B.B. quite a few times and I am glad to say I have seen Buddy a couple of times.

This is how Buddy Guy said goodbye to Wannee Fest in 2012..

Below Buddy Guy performs "Fever" with one of my favorite guitarists Tab Benoit...

While we are having Buddy play with some of my favorites we might as well have him jam with the Rolling Stones.."Champagne and Reefer"..

Cheers! I hope he sticks around for a few more birthday celebrations!

Thanks for visiting and I will be back soon!

Battle of the Bands Winner: Jimmy Page

My Battle of the Bands this time around was dedicated to B.B. King who passed away.  I posted a true tribute to B.B. King the same day which has a few more songs if you missed it feel free to check it out.

Before I get into the competition I did want to post one more song which is quite fitting..:Stay Around A Little Longer."

Two greats right there Buddy Guy and B.B. King. Speaking of two greats I had two greats in my battle of the bands performing the song "Hummingbird." Jimmy Page versus Leon Russell.  Leon Russell actually wrote the song, I choose Jimmy Page because his version of the song off of his "Outrider" album was my introduction to the song. Those who missed the competition here is B.B.King performing the song on the David Letterman show.

The voting was close. I think this may have been my must successful Battle of the Bands page view wise and fifteen votes, I am not voting I am just enjoying the music. It is a beautiful song. The versions were different with Leon adding in the choir near the end. However, in the end one more person liked Jimmy Page's version. The vocalist on that song is Chris Farlowe. Farlowe was on three of the nine tracks on the Outrider album. John Miles (who was the vocalist on the tour) was on two tracks which were rock tracks while Farlowe did the more blues songs. Robert Plant guested for one track and the other three tracks on the album were instrumentals.

Here is Chris Farlowe and Jimmy Page on another song from the album. It is an original tune called "Blues Anthem"

The final vote was Jimmy Page 8 Leon Russell 7 and unfortunately one less blues legend.  I will back June 1, 2015 with another Battle of he Bands.

Battle of the Bands: Hummingbird in honor of BB

I had something totally different planned out for this battle of the bands. Then I heard the news of BB King passing. Which changed everything.  This is my second post dedicated to BB King.
Regular rules, listen to the song clips in the blog post. In the comment section vote for the one you like the best. Feel free to explain why you voted the way you did. The battles take place on the first and 15th and winners will be announced on the 7th and 21st. I will normally post the winner in the comments. Of course have fun and enjoy!

The below list is edited to welcome some new battles and unfortunately some battles have taken a break. If you are still looking for more musical fun after you vote, you can check out these sites for more battles:

Please check out my friends above, they post some pretty neat stuff!

The Original, BB King. This version is note in the contest...

Challenger One: Leon Russell

Challenger Two: Jimmy Page

Please feel free to vote in the comment. Again it is Leon Russell versus Jimmy Page. Of course may BB King rest in peace...

R.I.P B.B. King

This is a blog post I don't want to write. We knew B.B. King had health problems so the news isn't shocking. It is sad. One of the elder statesman of the blues has passed away. I'm fortunate enough to have seen B.B. King perform live.

Hard to write a tribute about him. I just wrote about him in the A to Z: Challenge last month. The year before I wrote about his troubles on the road.

He was a gifted a story teller. When he was performing his facial expressions and eyes said so much. Of course the sweet notes he played on Lucille held their own with anyone. He was always willing to share the stage with anyone who opened for him.

The last time I saw B.B. King in concert he was on tour with Jeff Beck. ..

The above song is "Paying the Cost to Be the Boss."  So many great shows with Jimmie Vaughan, John Hiatt, Tommy Castro, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Jonny Lang and others. He introduced me to a lot of their music.

I wanted to go back, way before my time and dust something off for you "Three O'Clock Blues"

Here BB King is joined by Bobby Blue Bland on Soul Train for "It's My Own Fault"

So many songs. So many memories. I hope he has found peace. He played the blues all his life until this year when health issues pulled him off the road. He did what he wanted and I praise him for that. He will be missed. I don't like doing repeats but I will leave you with BB King and Eric Clapton performing "The Thrill is Gone."

The Thrill is Gone it left with the King!

A to Z Challenge: King of the Blues BB King

I used J for Joni Mitchell because she had health problems that put her in the hospital since the challenge started. The great B.B. King has also been hospitalized since the challenge started so  Iwill play tribute to him with this post.

I've blogged about him a few times in the past. Most notably a year ago and you can read that post here. I have been fortunate to see him several times. Besides being a great guitarist and legendary blues man he has other traits as well. He is an incredible storyteller and his facial expressions really pull you into the story. He also is humble and willing to share the stage with some many. Probably things which help make him a legend.

B.B. with a song about his guitar..

I think Lucille has a few more notes left in her, or at least I hope. Below "Sweet Little Angel"

Blues lovers may like this jam with Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton, and Jimmie Vaughan..

The song was "Rock Me Baby." Are you a fan of B.B. King? What is your favorite song? Any favorite memories of jams? Feel free to share. I wish him fast healing and better health. I hope you enjoy and see you soon!

Remembering Koko Taylor

Some called Koko Taylor the Queen of the Blues she passed away on June 3, 2009. Five years later sounds like a fine time to play tribute.

She was a woman! Here she performs "I'm A Woman"

Here is her take on the classic "I'd Rather Go Blind"

If she is the Queen she needs a King, here BB King and Koko Taylor perform "Something You Got"

A little Monday Blues bridging into Tuesday. She was talented, and a blues great!

Eric Clapton's Birthday

Today was Eric Clapton's birthday, March 30. Like I needed an excuse to blog about a legendary guitarist.

Thought I would start the post off with a more current video. Don't worry it is all good an less likely to be a repeat video from one of my earlier blogs.

Here is an article I wrote nearly 4 years ago called "Ten of My Favorite Eric Clapton Songs" I am sure I could have wrote that article ten years ago or tomorrow and probably come up with a different top ten.

His catalog of songs offers so many choices, there is always one "Somewhere Over The Rainbow."

No doubt he has seen his share of tears. Perhaps it is the cost of riding with the king..

Perhaps it is part of his Rock and Roll Heart..

Well I hope he enjoyed his birthday and /i wish him many more!

All Saints Day

In honor of All Saints day and being pretty close to New Orleans I thought I would dedicate my post to "When The Saints Go Marching In."

Here is a classic version by Louis Armstrong...

From a jazz great to a blues great here is B.B. King's version...

Here is the funk master James Brown with his Motown version...

Bringing it back to New Orleans with Dr. John...

Maybe a royal version by the king himself Elvis..

and I'll end with The Dirty Dozen Brass Band giving a great brass, funky, New Orleans version of the great song..

Enjoy your All Saints Day and enjoy the music!

Happy Birthday Buddy Guy!

Yes I probably blogged about him on his 76th birthday. However, Buddy Guy is worth celebrating, watching, listening to while he is still going. Him and BB King are among the few remaining old school blues players. Buddy Guy's influence on Rock music is perhaps why I like rock music.

Here he performs the "First Time I Met the Blues"

Here is Buddy from this year performing "You Give Me Fever"

He just released a two disc album of new material today as well. Seeing Buddy Guy in concert was checking something off my musical bucket list.

Here he performs "Feels Like Rain" in Biloxi again from 2013

Please search my other posts on Buddy Guy for more music. I just want to put some current songs to celebrate.
