It is a Sunday and a late at night. Sounds perfect for a traditional Bahamian gospel song. It was a song the Grateful Dead added into their repertoire decades ago. You know the drill, vote for the version you like best in the comments. I'm going to have three contenders this go around. I'll even the songs out by omitting the usual reference version.
Contender One: Aaron Neville
Contender Two: Nicolette Larson
I hope you enjoy this Battle of the Bands. I will post the results in another post and I will have another Battle on the 15th. I am sure I will post a few on the days in between. Until next time I bid you goodnight.

Mike,
First, let me tell you I do not have a showdown this time. I am not all that familiar Grateful Dead mewsic and I certainly did not recognize this song but that doesn't make any difference, right?
Your three contenders did a fabulous job covering "I Bid You Goodnight". I actually like these versions over the Grateful Dead's. Aaron's cover had a bit more pep which got me moving this morning. Nicolette sounds like a lovely bedtime lullaby. However, it's your third choice that put my mind inside an old fashion church house making the lyrics more meaningful. Please give my vote to Soweto Gospel Choir.
Have a bandtastic day, my friend!
MIKE ~
I don't think I ever heard this song before.
Ordinarily, I would vote for Haagen-Dazs. But since they weren't an option this time, I'll vote for SOWETO GOSPEL CHOIR. I am a fan of group singing / harmonizing.

STMcC Presents 'Battle Of The Bands'
Kinda hard to beat a Gospel Choir in almost any song! And all three versions were beautifully done. When I listened to Nicolette I wondered if Allison Krause has a version out there.
This is a very long song for the repetitive lyrics however. I'm voting for Nicolette because I could listen to her sing this all the way through, and then some. Just love her voice.
I'm familiar with a version of this incorporated into a 1968 song by the Incredible String Band. I'd always thought it was an original by them and I still prefer their version most of all.
Of these three I think Larsen captures the feel and spirit of the song best--a mother's lullaby. I vote for Nicolette Larson.

Tossing It Out
I'm not much of a fan of Aaron Neville. Great record producer, definitely, I just don't like his voice. The Soweto Gospel Choir had the misfortune of being the last one I listened to, and thought the lead singer sounded too much like Aaron Neville. Nicolette Larson has always been a favorite, and she didn't disappoint here, so she gets my vote.
Hey! I almost missed this battle. Not sure how I managed to overlook it when it came out, but I am here now.
I'm giving my vote to Aaron Neville. He's truly a talent and I love his voice.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I really appreciate your
efforts and I am waiting for your next post thanks once again.
