Battle of the Bands August 1: Presence of the Lord

A new month is here! Which also means a new Battle of the Bands. I'll pick a song and share a video with the original artist or someone who made the song famous. Then I pick two contenders to battle it out to see whose cover is best. Who decides the winner? You do when you vote in the comments.

If you like these battles. Check out the other ones going on. This site has the most up to date list of Battles.

The song: Presence of the Lord written by Eric Clapton performed by Blind Faith

Contender One:Larry Norman

Contender Two: Glenn Kaiser

Vote please! I'll post the results around the 7th and I will have a new Battle on the 15th!

This is a song that I like a great deal from one of my favorite albums. I've been a Larry Norman fan since the 60's when he was with the group People! His version of the Clapton song comes from an interesting album of covers of religious themed songs by secular groups where he is sometimes parodying or ridiculing the songs. He stays pretty true to "Presence of the Lord" and I like his version a great deal. Kaiser does a great job, but my favorite is Larry Norman.

Mike, Thanks for the introduction of this song. Both versions are good, but I'm giving my vote to Glenn Kaiser. I preferred the simpler sound of the guitar and his vocals were better. Nice battle!

I don't think I had ever heard this song before. I liked both versions, but there is just something about Glenn Kaiser's vocals that draws me to it. Please give my vote to Glenn Kaiser.

I liked Glenn Kaiser a whole lot better on this one. The arranement wa a little more sparse and allowed his voice to come through better.

I liked both versions but I'm giving my vote to Glenn Kaiser. I liked the music better and especially enjoyed the little bit of harmonica that we got to hear in the song...

Good battle Mike.
