Battle of the Bands Volume 17: Travelin' Light

Before I get to the music let me explain what is going on and who else has battles!

Regular rules, listen to the song clips in the blog post. In the comment section vote for the one you like the best. Feel free to explain why you voted the way you did. The battles take place on the first and 15th and winners will be announced on the 7th and 21st. I will normally post the winner in the comments. Of course have fun and enjoy!

The below list is edited to welcome some new battles and unfortunately some battles have taken a break. If you are still looking for more musical fun after you vote, you can check out these sites for more battles:

DC Relief Battle of the Bands

Since I will be on the road traveling I thought this song might fit JJ Cale's "Travelin' Light"

Now that we have a song picked out we need some folks to cover it.

Our first contestant is Widespread Panic...

Our second contestant is Eric Clapton..

Who are you going to vote for? We have one of the top jam bands in Widespread Panic against one of the top guitarists in classic rock Eric Clapton. Vote and enjoy! I will check in somewhere down the road...

This is a tough choice. Both covers are excellent. I like Clapton's smooth flawless sound--nothing at all wrong with this version.

I always enjoy hearing Widespread Panic and this song is no exception. I really like the driving force of the drums and the energetic presentation in general.

If I'm to pick one that I prefer then I'm going with Widespread Panic. Yeah, that version kicks.

Mike, man, this is a great song. I don't remember ever hearing it before, but I loved it. Lee is so right... this is a tough choice. Both are super versions.

Widespread Panic... is so full of energy via their percussion, and a driving beat. My goodness - that piano! It's screaming road trip! I never would never tire of this. Clapton and the guitar are always top notch. It is definitely pure and clean in my mind... BUT I am now playing Widespread Panic for the third time!! (smile)

Widespread Panic gets my vote. Great battle, Mike. Thank you.

I don't remember the original or the artist. So, I'm gonna have to check JJ Cale's music out more. For now, let me get back to the battle at hand. Widespread Panic is also new-to-me and while I enjoyed their version Eric Clapton sorta stole the show for me with his, as Arlee Bird put it, smooth flawless sound. Give my vote to Eric Clapton! Great BOTB!

I like the mellower sound of Eric Clapton over Widespread Panic. So, he gets my vote.

I gotta go with Clapton this morning.

I have to admit that even though I enjoy Clapton well enough (and give the man his due, as he is a legend), I just never got his massive appeal and...dare I say it....found him to be a bit overrated. Despite that, he really did a pretty amazing cover of this song.

But my vote? Definitely goes to Widespread Panic. I liked their overall sound a bit better, and I do tend to enjoy jam bands!

Clapton's version felt better on the ears than Widespread Panic. Clapton gets my vote.

I still has no Internet service and I can't really play the songs because I'm in a public library and they'd kick me out. But thanks to my immense musical knowledge (and a little help from a good friend) I'm able to cast a vote anyway...

Give my vote to: ERIC CLAPTON.

If I manage to get Internet service prior to the 21st, I will return and correct my vote (should I determine I got it wrong the first time... which is highly unlikely).

Excuse the "copy & paste" job but at least I ain't totally AWOL in this installment of BOTB. I should be back at 100% before too long.
