R.I.P Sydney-Chanele Dawkins

Once in a while on this blog I like play it forward and spot light another writer or give a shout out to another writer.Even though Sydney-Chanele Dawkins is deserving of being put into a spotlight due to her writing this is not the way that I had envisioned. Most of the writers I know and spotlight or give a shout out to are people I only know in the cyber world. It is a little different when the person is someone you know in person. I have found memories of hanging out with this writer at CATF- Contemporary American Theater Festival after parties and at DC Metro Theater Arts meetings and gatherings. What is sadder is writing a Rest in Peace article. She lost her battle with breast cancer.

Sydney-Chanele Dawkins

I will share the article on her passing penned by Joel Markowitz here. She was a reviewer, columnist, and interviewer at DC Metro Theater Arts and I do recommend checking out her work there. You will find some great interviews on film, theatre, and music. Also there are some fantastic reviews of the Washington area entertainment scene. 

Photo courtesy of DC Metro Theater Arts. Beyond writing she created three feature films, produced plays with local theater groups, and was involved with  several film festivals and art groups. The Washington Area arts scene will definitely miss her. At 47 she passed away too soon. MAy she rest in peace.

Willie Nelson

Seeing Willie Nelson in concert would be cool, seeing the country legend in a club setting would be unreal. Tonight some lucky fans in Washington, D.C. well get to see Willie Nelson perform at the 9:30 Club. I wrote a preview article at Examiner which you can read here. It was featured at Examiner which was nice. Fans may want to check out the slideshow and video about him getting inducted into the Austin City Limits Hall of Fame.

Of course my blog will include more music since that is how  I roll. This is one of my daughters favorites the classic "On The Road Again"

Patti LaBelle

Happy Birthday DC Metro Theater Arts

DC Metro Theater Arts where I write reviews of plays, musical, comedians, concerts and other events turns a year old on March 15, 2013. If you haven't checked out the site I invite you too. Here is a link. It really has become a leading site for entertainment arts around Washington. How will I celebrate the one year anniversary? I will be covering a one man play.

What are the other events? I've had the privilege of covering a circus and a Chinese dance drama. As the site embarks into their second year I look forward to contributing to the site in the future.

Just a short happy birthday, a brief post to mark this anniversary, a chance to mark this moment. I will be back in a few hours with a new post.

Pop! at the Studio Theatre in Washington D.C.

My latest review is published you can read it here. The musical was performed at the Studio Theatre's 2nd stage in Washington, D.C. It was really neat you entered the set as soon you entered the stairs leading up to the stage. The seating was very close to the stage as well creating a very intimate theatrical experience. If you want to read more check out the review.

I went to the play on Wednesday and it was a sizzling day in the city. The temperature at 10:40 was 87 degrees. It was one of Washington's typical summer days hot, hazy, and humid. However, it was neat to walk through the DuPont Circle neighborhood of Washington, D.C. We had a quick dinner at the Playbill right across the street from the Studio.
