Battle of the Bands: People Get Ready

Jeff Beck passed away last month so I will work him into this Battle of the Bands. I am picking the lovely Curtis Mayfield song "People Get Ready." It was a hit with The Impressions. Curtis, Eva and Jeff have all left for the great studio in the sky.

Contender One: Eva Cassidy

Contender Two: Jeff Beck and Rod Stewart

Let me know who you like best Eva or Jeff in the comments.

It seems we lost quite a few legendary musicians on the past month and a half. Both are great but there is aomething about Eva's rendition that grabs me more so I am going to choose Eva.

Hey, MIKE ~

I always liked this song. Good stuffs, man!

Ordinarily, I naturally seem to usually prefer male vocalists to female vocalists. But there are occasional exceptions.

EVA did a really nice, moving rendition of this song. Beck was unquestionably an exceptional guitarist. But on the other hand, I have never really cared for Rod Stewart's gravelly vocal sound. So, this is one of those rare instances when I'm going to vote for the female singer over the male singer.

Real nice selection, Mike. I greatly enjoyed hearing this song this morning. It really hit the spot for me. Good job!!

Good-day, Mike!

I enjoyed both contenders but in this round, I'm going to give my vote to Rod Stewart & Jeff Beck. Nice battle, my friend. Have a bandtastic weekend!!

Fantastic Battle! The Beck/Stewart collaboration is amazing and well suited for this song.

But Eva really drew me in and won me over. The live performance was pretty cool.

A vote for Eva Cassidy.

After listening to Eva sing, I was ready to give it to her, then I heard Jeff and Rod do the song and changed my mind. I really like the soulful vocals by Rod, and Jeff is just plain outstanding. A vote for Jeff Beck and Rod Stewart!

An excellent way to pay tribute to all three! Superfly and Freddie's Dead were among the songs I heard on my first transistor radio as we (young and dumb-uns) practiced the ill-advised art of train-hopping back in the day. I'm not familiar with Eva's work, though she nearly won me over. Please give my vote to the Beck/Stewart duo, the two of them jammin' on the train (ha!)

Probably too late to vote now, but the Jeff Beck version with Rod Stewart is my favourite. Still in shock about losing Beck, one of my favourite guitarists! 😢
