This blog spot is the home to my ramblings. I am a free lance writer. Most of my work goes on Associated Content. Sometimes I write what is on my mind, sometimes I plug some of my writing, and sometimes a combination of the two. So, sit back read, enjoy, and we will see where it goes.
I was searching the internet looking through the greatest writing gig finder called Craigslist. I came across this gig under "writing gigs" from the Chicago craigslist.
The title is "Dog Walker Needed! Mon-Fri, 10am - 4pm (Chicago)"
I might apply it would be my highest paid "writing gig"!
The difference on my battle is I used the English version. The monster pop hit, the annoying earworm, and probably a huge cash cow for Nena provided a tight Battle of the Bands. Of course credit for the close battle has to be the contenders Goldfinger and Sleeping at Last.
Sleeping at Last won 4-3. Congrats to them! I won't celebrate their music because there is a chance they may appear in a future battle down the road. They perform unique covers of pop songs.
Anyway I will be back with an all new battle February 1 so stay tuned!
Earl Weaver the legendary former manager of the Baltimore Orioles passed away this week.
Some of his highlights..
He managed the team from 1968 to 1982. That kind of tenure is almost unheard of today in baseball.
Ejected from a World Series game..
He also managed the O's from 1985 to 1986. He was the winning manager of the 1970 World Series. His team won 4 American League Pennants. His number is retired, he is in the Baseball Hall of Fame, and on a personal note the manager of the home team for the first Major League baseball game I ever attended.
Reflections on him..
Earl Weaver was a Baltimore legend, a baseball legend who will be missed by his family, friends, and fans. May he rest in peace.
Since this is my 99th Battle of the Bands, I thought I would go with 99 Balloons. Picking an 80's pop song that is such an earworm you will be singing it for days after listening to it. Perhaps that should be a warning label.
The original English version of the song..
Contender One: Goldfinger
Contender Two: Sleeping at Last
Hope you had fun! You know the routine vote for the one you like the best in the comments. I will count them up and post a results post a week or so later. Thanks for visiting and I will back soon.
John Mayer must have been watching this Battle of the Bands from the sidelines as no one voted for his version of "After Midnight." It was a tight contest between Eric Clapton and the songwriter J.J. Cale. Mr. Cale edged out Mr. Slowhand 4 to 3.
Celebrating his victory we spin his tunes...
Here they are together Eric and J.J with "After Midnight" and "Call Me the Breeze"….
"Magnolia"
"Cloudy Day"
I hope you enjoyed the battle and I will be back on the 15th with a brand new Battle of the Bands. In between I might blog about something so feel free to come back and visit.
After Midnight and it will be 2019! Happy New Year's everyone. It is time for the first Battle of the Bands of 2019. The song is J.J Cale's "After Midnight." It's a New Year's Party lets go with three versions.
Contender One: Eric Clapton
Contender Two: J.J. Cale
Contender Three: John Mayer Trio
Eric Clapton's rocking 1988 version, the original, or John Mayer's exploration who gets your vote? Vote for the version you like best in the comments. I will count them up and announce a winner before 2020. Hope you have a safe Holiday!
