R.I.P Pete Rose

Charlie Hustle is perhaps the greatest baseball player not in the Hall of Fame. Pete Rose hit over .300 for his career. He has played in more Major League Baseball games and has more hits than any other player in the league's history.

                                                       Highlights:

He was a 17 time All-Star, an MVP, won three batting titles, a three-time World Series Champion, and a rookie of the year award through a 23-year career.

When he became the hit king:

He was banned from the Hall of Fame for betting on baseball. However, his achievements show he was an all-time great.

R.I.P Bob Gibson

Hall of Fame pitcher Bob Gibson has passed away. He was on two World Series winning teams and was named the MVP in both series! He was a National League MVP and two time Cy Young winner. He was a 9 time All Star who struck out over 3000 batters in his career.

Below is his induction to the Hall of Fame...

He pitched a no hitter and won 251 games.  Below are some highlights...

Baseball lost another great!

R.I.P Tom Seaver

Perhaps this was a last reunion, the video above showing members of the 1969 New York Mets team reuniting including Tom Seaver.

Tom Seaver passed away at the age of 75. The pitcher had an amazing career.

1967 rookie of the year, 1969 World Champion, three Cy Young Awards,  a no-hitter and a 12 time all star.

A career defined by numbers 311 wins, 3,640 strike outs, a career ERA of  2.86.

The numbers and achievements combined for a Hall of Fame career.

His induction speech...

His career allowed him into broadcasting, to write and co-write books, and maintain a legacy.  He left the Mets with a pennant, he left Cooperstown with a bust, he leaves behind highlights, stats of a great career. He will be missed by fans, friends and family.

R.I.P Earl Weaver

Earl Weaver the legendary former manager of the Baltimore Orioles passed away this week.

Some of his highlights..

He managed the team from 1968 to 1982. That kind of tenure is almost unheard of today in baseball.

Ejected from a World Series game..

He also managed the O's from 1985 to 1986.  He was the winning manager of the 1970 World Series. His team won 4 American League Pennants. His number is retired, he is in the Baseball Hall of Fame, and on a personal note the manager of the home team for the first Major League baseball game I ever attended.

Reflections on him..

Earl Weaver was a Baltimore legend, a baseball legend who will be missed by his family, friends, and fans. May he rest in peace.

Cubs win the curse is over!

108 years is a long time to wait for a World Series Championship. The wait is over, the Chicago Cubs are the 2016 World Series Champs. It is fitting that the series went seven games and was decided in extra innings. Fans even had to wait though a rain delay.

The Cleveland Indians were a worthy opponent. It is probably a good thing the series is limited to seven games as winter was probably knocking on the door to both cities.

Interesting connections:

Addison Russell's hometown is the same town I live in. Russell plays for the Cubs and now will be receiving a World Series ring.

Here is his Grand Slam...

Ben Zobrist I met when he was in the minor leagues and he did something very cool for my stepson. Zobrist ended up being the World Series MVP!

His game winning hit in game seven...

Highlights in general:

Well baseball is over until Spring Training! Congrats to the Cubs!

Boston Red Sox World Series Champs!

Congratulations to the Boston Red Sox for winning the 2013 World Series! Congratulations to the St. Louis Cardinals for winning the National League pennant.

Crazy calls...

St. Louis moment..

Six games played final score 6-1. David Ortiz MVP. First World Series won in Fenway since 1918. Red Sox third championship in last decade. Those will be your headlines. Red Sox nation enjoy! The rest of the baseball world Spring Training will be here soon!

San Francisco Giants World Champions

I'm happy the San Francisco Giants won the World Series..I am related by marriage to one of the players so I have a rooting issue and it is nice to watch the game with family. It is fitting the last game went to extra innings and went back and fourth. It was a great reminder of the great October baseball played this season. I am saddened for the Detroit Tigers for being swept. However, they had a great season and a lot to be proud of...I will post some highlights starting with game one..

Game two...

Game three,,

and finally game four..

Now is an interesting part of the year the off season moves, then Spring Training, then a new season will start and we will see who can play Center field...

Congrats to The Yankees!

Congratulations to the New York Yankees for winning the World Series. The Yankees are the 2009 Major League Baseball Champions and are without question the best team in baseball.
The New York Yankees had the best record in baseball

The New York Yankees swept the Minnesota Twins and went on to beat the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in six games. Then the New York Yankees beat the 2008 World Champion Philadelphia Phillies in six games in the World Series. The Yankees beat the best of the best to prove the Yankees were the best team in baseball.

Sports

Well the World Series starts on Wednesday. It features the New York Yankees against the defending champion Philadelphia Phillies. It should be great series. I didn't get around to writing a preview of the Philadelphia Phillies, however I did write a preview of the New York Yankees which you can read here.

In college football I mixed up the rankings once again this week. You can view the new rankings here. It is a great time of year for college footbal since their are great conference match up games and rivalry games. Boise State and TCU look like they are getting ready to give their best efforts to break into the BCS bowls.

My Fantasy Football Team had another blowout win. A lot of my success is that I have been able to fill in for injuries and prepare for bye weeks. However, next week looks like I will be down one quarterback and a running back. It still looks like my team should win, however it will be closer than the last two weeks.
