R.I.P Ned Beatty

The first movie I think about when I hear Ned Beatty is "Deliverance." A movie I discovered in college and his first movie.

A clip from "Deliverance"

He was nominated for some awards, but only won a Drama Desk Award for his role in the play "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof."

He had roles in some great movies "All the President's Men,"  "Superman," "The Big Easy,"  "Rudy," "Just Cause," and more. On television he appeared on "The Waltons," "Kojak," "M*A*S*H," "Gunsmoke," "Hawaii Five-O," "Murder, She Wrote," "Alfred Hitchcock Presents," "Highway to Heaven," "Roseanne," "Homicide: Life on the Streets," "CSI" and "Law & Order."

Clip from "The Rockford Files"

Ned Beatty had a long career in acting his work will live on in archives and reruns. Ned will be missed by his family, friends and family.

Battle of the Bands Results: Lute versus Guitar

The Battle between the guitar and lute was much closer than the blues guitar slingers playing nursery rhymes battle I had last time. Ieva Baltmiskyte and her lute bested Christoph Denoth and his guitar. Dowland's Frog Galliard set the playground for one instrument to shine.

Here she performs Dowland's Fantasia No. 7

Please join me for another Battle of the Bands on the 15th.

Battle of the Bands: A Day late, Frog Galliard

Well I am a day late on my Battle of the Band and probably a few dollars short. Any way today I am switching genres to classical music. John Dowland's Frog Galliard is the piece. I have it performed on classical guitar and lute. Performed by a Gent and a Lady.  Below are the contenders.

Christoph Denoth

Ieva Baltmiskyte

Who do you like best Christoph or Ieva? Let me know in the comments. I will have the results in a week or so in another post. In the mean time I will see you soon!

R.I.P BJ Thomas

I am sure I heard other songs on the radio, but one of the first I remember hearing was "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head."

Three years ago, much later than when I first her the song, I was able to see him life in a very small concert hall.

"The Eyes of a New York Woman"

I left that song out when I wrote about seeing him on a Monday's Music Moves Me post, but someone said in the comments it was his favorite.

"Hooked on a Feeling" with Sara Niemietz. She is a talented singer who sang with him when she was 4.  Her post was how I heard the news.

The world lost a talented singer, songwriter may he rest in peace!

R.I.P Captain Stubing

The Captain of the Love Boat passed away today at the age of 90. Captain Stubing was perhaps Gavin MacLeod's biggest role. The show ran 10 years and 250 episodes. It also spun out a television movie.

                                                 The show's opening...

I'm sure a seven year run on the Mary Tyler Moore show helped his career. Plus some spots on TV history from 1957 to 2011.

He will live on in re-runs on the expected shows and the unexpected! May he rest in peace.
