Willie Nelson

Seeing Willie Nelson in concert would be cool, seeing the country legend in a club setting would be unreal. Tonight some lucky fans in Washington, D.C. well get to see Willie Nelson perform at the 9:30 Club. I wrote a preview article at Examiner which you can read here. It was featured at Examiner which was nice. Fans may want to check out the slideshow and video about him getting inducted into the Austin City Limits Hall of Fame.

Of course my blog will include more music since that is how  I roll. This is one of my daughters favorites the classic "On The Road Again"

Grand Funk Railroad at the Fair

Grand Funk Railroad is indeed an American Band and they came to Pensacola to help us party it down at the fair.



I think i shouldn't have sat in the second row behind the speakers. My ears did ring a bit. But they mixed in some mellow tunes as well..

There was the original drummer who put on a show,,,

It was a show running about 70 minutes packed with many of the groups hits, a great version of the National Anthem and a powerful drum solo.Hits like the locomotion, some kind of wonderful. I'm Your Captain, and We're an American Band were mixed in a nice set that included several other songs like The Devil's Daughter. It was a fun show and the fair was a fun venue. Food, rides and exhibits kept the party going.

Great 80's show: The Psychedelic Furs and The GO--GO's

Earlier this month I reviewed the Go-Go's show at Wolf Trap with The Psychedelic Furs. You can read my review here.Two very influential bands. The Go-Go's were an all girl band, who played all their instruments rocked with pop sensibilities. I could hear the influences of The Psychedelic Furs on other bands and the bands hat influenced them. Bands slightly older than me but bands who hit their stride in my youthful days.

Like always I try to give a little more on the show or artist that I review.

My review had The Go-Go's performing "My Lips are Sealed" from a show in Central Park and The Psychedelic Furs performing "Love My Way" from Belgium. Hope you enjoyed the clips from the show and my review. I will be back soon with another post..

Tommy Emmanuel

Okay I knew Tommy Emmanuel was a great guitarist. It is the reason i signed up to review his show. I knew the venue, The Birchmere was a super place to see and hear musicians play. The show exceded my expectations. One the opening act was Anthony Snape, who I wasn't familier with before the show. He turned out to be a talented songwriter, a solid guitarist, and a gifted singer. He was aslso very energized and excited to be opening the show. I met him after the show and he appeared to be very humble as well.

Then there was Tommy Emmanuel who lived up to his hype and then some. He was a great showman. His show was part clinic, part awe inspiring, and 100% entertaining. You can read my review here. If you have never seen him in concert put it on your bucket list.

Rhonda Vincent the Review

Well I told you I would be back with more about the Queen of Blue Grass, Rhonda Vincent and here I am. Well yes I interviewed her but I also was fortunate to review her show. You can read my review here. What was even better was the proceeds from the event went to help the high school where the concert took place. It went to help the athletics, the drama club, the band, other music programs. All of the programs that help kids, the extra curricular activities that along with academics can help students go to college, the programs constantly being cut where all supported and in my book(or at least in my blog) that is good.

The concert was good no opening act over two hours of music. Nothing fancy it was kind of stripped down. However, if you have won over 80 awards the music must be alright.

Trying to add a couple of videos, but between two articles and two blog posts I hope I post something different.

Melissa Etheridge

Friday I went to the Music Center at the Strathmore to see Melissa Etheridge. The venue has some of the best sound I have ever heard and is easy to get too. You can read my review here.I found part of the show n youtube so you can watch and listen below...

I must admit she does put on a long show and she enjoys it more than most artists! I know she is touring in support of her new album but she played most of it during the concert.Thankfully, the new songs sounded pretty good. Here is the title track of her new album, I chose a live version from Long Beach which happened about a month before the show I attended...

Is Local Live Music Dying?

Is local live music dying out? Granted Charles Town is not the biggest city in the world but two of the best regional blues guitarists were playing in town. On one street Duffy Kane was playing a set and his set ended around ten I went to another venue and watched Billy Thompson. These shows had no covers associated with them, in other words they were free shows. Even better the shows were at non smoking venues. However, the crowds were sparse. I know maybe it is the holiday weekend, perhaps it is an off night, but then again could it be local music is dying off?

The first musician I saw tonight was Duffy Kane performing with just a bass player, though a local drummer joined in later. Here he is with a full band...

Then I walked over to see Billy Thompson for a bit. Here is  a taste..

Thankfully I live in an area that is rich with local talent. I just wish they had more support.

The Fresh Beat Band

Yes the 3PM start time for the Fresh Beat Band did come as a surprise. I had to sign my daughter out of school and had the long ride home in rush hour to deal with. However, it was all worth it. My daughter had a wonderful time! You can read my review here.

I applaud Wolf Trap for setting up a lost kids station at the concert knowing the Fresh Beat Band would draw a lot of young kids. An ounce of prevention goes along way!

Yesterday was a great day for my daughter and I. I hope I am blessed with many more!

Crosby, Stills and Nash

The last time I was able to see Crosby, Stills and Nash was about 20 years ago. Wow, that makes me feel old. I walked away thinking Stephen Stills might be one of the most under rated guitarists. After seeing them again I still thing that may be true. Even though their voices may not be what they used to be, they still have plenty of moments and put on a great show. The backing band was pretty solid. The guitarist has played with Bruce Springsteen, the drummer had played with David Gilmour, and the bass player had played with Jackson Browne.They played a couple of newer songs, a couple of deep tracks, and lots of favorites.

I am having a great year of concerts seeing a bunch of diverse musicians. As long as the power stays on I will be blogging and sharing I hope you enjoy!
