Battle of the Bands: If We Make it Through December

I guess with Charley Pride's death my mind has taken a slightly country turn. 2020 has been a tough year. Covid would be the obvious finger point and then in the United States it was n election year. Personally it has been a tough year with my Dad passing and the other not so fun things going on in my life. Well time keeps going, and a new year is coming "If We Make it Through December."

The original written in 1973 by Merle Haggard...

Contender One: Marty Robbins

Contender Two: Alan Jackson

Well you decide who wins in the comments. I count them up and announce the winner in a week or so in a different post. Marty versus Alan singing a Merle song well you can't say this song isn't Country. I am planning to post the results before the end of the month just in case we don't get through December. Hopefully we will ring in the New Year with my next Battle stay tuned!

Battle of the Bands: Summertime Blues Part 2

The layout on this battle of the bands is going to be pretty basic. I am doing this post on my phone so I appologize if I have more typos than normal. Besides the thunderstorms knocking the wi fi out on my laptop, I have also managed to crack the screen. Talk about the Summertime Blues. Anyway I am sticking with the same song as last time since the results ended in a tie. Maybe we will have a winner this time but that is up to your votes in the comments.

Opponent One: Alan Jackson

Opponent Two: Brian Setzer

I think these two are about as far from Blue Cheer or The Who that I could get. Let me know what version you like in the comments and I will have the results later this month.

Monday's Music Moves Me: Remember/Forget

Another great topic by John for this round of Monday's Music Moves Me songs that relate to remember/forget. Great for a Monday rush out the door! However, I don't think they write songs about forgetting your badge, your keys, or remembering you have your daughter's book bag when you arrive at work!

Let' start with "I Can't Recall" by The Everly Brothers, performed by Phil...

Peter Gabriel   "I Don't Remember"....

Alan Jackson...."Remember When"...

Adele "Don't You Remember"

I will throw in this one as the forget song!  Cee Lo Green "Forget You"

Some classic rock, some superstars, some country something to dance too! Thanks for visiting I hope you enjoyed!

Monday Music Moves Me: 9.11

Running late on this one. I always try to remember 9.1 on my blog. Monday Music Moves Me allows me to give a musical twist to that tribute.

Everyone in this blog hop probably has this Alan Jackson song..

How about this National Anthem performed for the first time after 9.11 at Shea Stadium in New York..

Sang by Marc Anthony.

I think on a day like today less is more.

Battle of the Bands Results: It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere!

I wanted to pay tribute to Guy Clark with my Battle of the Bands selection to start the month of June off. Many of you stated you liked the song "Boats to Build" which Guy Clark wrote.  I think I accomplished that goal.

The results weren't close. They were what you expect when you put two musical Superstars together on one selection and pit them against someone most of the world hasn't heard of on the other selection. I was hoping for a closer contest. There were some twists in the contest.

The one who fell a dozen votes short of victory, Jerry Jeff Walker is friends with Jimmy Buffett. He is also credited in influencing Jimmy on his version of the song. Still the vote was 12-2 in favor of Jimmy and Alan Jackson. But it was nice to share a deeper track from the Buffett catalog.

Speaking of Buffett and Alan Jackson, I think it's 5 o'clock somewhere...

Here is a deep track from a really cute movie, which I would love to find, called "Hoot." It really is a family friendly movie. Anyway the song is called "Barefootin"

I'll leave you with Jerry Jeff Walker and Jimmy Buffett performing a song they wrote together..

Hope you enjoy! More songs and artists coming up on the 15th!

Battle of the Bands: Boats to Build

A new month a new battle. Welcome to my Battle of the Bands for June 1, 2016. Here are the rules: You pick the one you like best by casting your vote in the comments. I tally them up and I will announce the winner on the 7th. I encourage you to check out the other mighty Battles and if you want to join up details can be found here!

Guy Clark passed away about two weeks and I didn't get a chance to pay proper tribute on my blog. Summer time is here so perhaps this song will be a good choice.

The Source: Guy Clark

Contender One: Jimmy Buffett and Alan Jackson

Contender Two: Jerry Jeff Walker

Vote away in the comments and I will be back with the results soon!

Alan Jackson

Last night I went to the sold out Alan Jackson concert, the opening act was Craig Campbell. You can read my review here. It was a cool country concert as Alan played lots of hits. My wife nudging and winking at me as he played "Don't Rock the Jukebox" since he says "my heart ain't ready for the Rolling Stones" my wife was poking fun at me knowing I am a big Rolling Stones fan.

Here is Alan Jackson playing that song from last night..

To be honest I do like Alan Jackson's music. The opening act Craig Campbell was not bad. He has a good chance of becoming a star..

Here he is performing his biggest hit last night called "Family Man"...

I know I could sit here all day posting Alan Jackson hits but I will just post these two videos from last night.I had three articles published today including this one. So I will have at least two new blog posts coming up this week so stay tuned. I'll leave you with one more.."Where I Come From"

Hope you enjoy!

The Fourth of July

Well it is a crazy July. Another Fourth of July is coming to a close. I was able to celebrate twice. Once last week as the County I live in had their celebration. Today, I drove over to Leesburg, Virginia and watched theirs! I like to watch them on the 4th of July!

Well I thought I would put together a collection of Patriotic songs to keep the party going!

First up is "Living in America," I love that old school funk and James Brown was a master!

I also love the blues and I just found this version today. Here is some Keb Mo doing "America the Beautiful"

Well even the U.S. gets the Blues here are the Dead...

Hey it is all about fun, Brad Paisley tells you about it here..

Ray Charles is another master...

and we have somethings we should never forget like Alan Jackson sings about the world stopped spinning..

and I will end with the Star Spangled Banner..

Well thanks to those who serve to make America what it is! I hope you enjoy the tunes and the Holiday! I know there are a lot more songs out there if you have a favorite I miss add it in the comments! This is a light post, I was without power for a few days so I will be back with some heavier posts soon!
