R.I.P Earl Weaver

Earl Weaver the legendary former manager of the Baltimore Orioles passed away this week.

Some of his highlights..

He managed the team from 1968 to 1982. That kind of tenure is almost unheard of today in baseball.

Ejected from a World Series game..

He also managed the O's from 1985 to 1986.  He was the winning manager of the 1970 World Series. His team won 4 American League Pennants. His number is retired, he is in the Baseball Hall of Fame, and on a personal note the manager of the home team for the first Major League baseball game I ever attended.

Reflections on him..

Earl Weaver was a Baltimore legend, a baseball legend who will be missed by his family, friends, and fans. May he rest in peace.

He was a character. I went to a doubleheader at Comiskey Park against the Orioles back in '79, and he got himself thrown out of both games, playing the first game under protest due to the "lack of integrity of the umpires." I think if he hadn't been such a character he would have been ejected more than he was. He was one hell of a manager, that much is certain. "Pitching, defense, and the three-run homer." RIP
