Battle of the Bands: King Versus Queen

The mid month Battle of the Band rolls on with another battle. It could be a third straight shut out and it wouldn't surprise me. However I am going to make it interesting. The Queen of Soul against the King, B.B.. King who passed away three years ago.

The song was written by Roy Hawkins and Rick Darnell it is called "The Thrill is Gone"

Contender One: Aretha Franklin

Contender Two: B.B. King

Who gets your vote? The Queen of Soul or B.B. King are the choices in this music royalty battle. Please vote in the comments and we will see who wins!

Aretha does a fine job, but she can't unseat the King on this song.

My vote goes to BB King.

I love this song! BB King's version is the one I know best and no way could Aretha ever surpass him. Sorry, Queen of Soul, but The King of Blues gets my vote.

This may come as a surprise but I really do not care for Aretha's voice. She's a huge legend in the industry but her nasally sound just grates on my nerves. Give my vote please to BB King!

God bless Aretha Franklin, who's my birthday twin and one of the greatest voices of our time, but this is BB's song. Has it been three years already?

Ha!-Ha! :^O MIKE, I am left with no option but to assume you are BOTB's official Masochist.

Having suffered two consecutive BOTB Shutouts, have you thrown in the towel and just decided to become "The King Of Shutouts", seeing how many of them in a row you can achieve? HA! Honestly, I can't imagine anyone using B.B. KING's iconic version of 'The Thrill Is Gone' in a BOTB contest unless they were actively attempting to create a shutout.

Well, regardless, all is fair in Love and War... and BOTB.

You may add my voice to the B.B. KING pile! In my opinion, his guitar solo in this song may be the greatest in the history of recorded Blues. There is not a wasted or superfluous note; the building and releasing of tension in his guitar playing is nothing short of masterful.

Although I am no fan of Aretha Franklin's work, I actually liked her version better'n I thought I might -- primarily due to her piano playing, not necessarily her vocals. But in a contest against B.B. KING's recording? Not a chance in the world!!

Ha! Carry on, my Brother, however you see fit. It'z all good.
