R.I.P Jim Vance

Jim Vance was one of the longest running news anchors in the Washington D.C. area and perhaps anywhere else. He worked for 45 years at WRC TV. In that time he won 19 local Emmy Awards, was named "Washingtonian of the Year" by Washingtonian Magazine, and inducted into the National Black Journalist Hall of Fame.

Having lived in the area before I have many memories of watching him deliver the news. His employer must of felt the same way.

Happy Birthday Sting!

Today is Sting's birthday. Sting was the vocalist and bass player for the Police and also an accomplished solo artist as well. Besides singing and playing bass Sting plays other instruments as well. Sting has won 16 Grammy Awards and 25 American Music Awards, an Emmy and is a Kennedy Center Honoree.

So lets jump in and celebrate the 64 year old's music!

Happy Birthday! Michael Douglas

 I can't believe Michael Douglas is 71 today, but then again I have trouble coping with how old I am. He was the star of some memorable movies in my younger days like "Basic Instinct" and "Disclosure" for example.

The awards he has racked up is most impressive. The list includes two Academy Awards, five Golden Globes, and an Emmy.

R.I.P. Frank Gifford

On the same day the National Football League had their Hall of Fame Pre-Season football game kicking off the 2015 season former NFL player, sportscaster  and Hall of Famer Frank Gifford past away at the age of 84.

Frank survived a life threatening injury in 1960...

In his playing days Frank Gifford played both offense and defense. He was an eight time All- Pro being selected at three different positions. Frank won a championship with the New York Giants and was the NFL MVP in 1956. His jersey number 16 is retired by the New York Giants. He joined the NFL Hall of Fame in 1977.

His sportscasting career is best known for his NFL coverage for CBS and eventually ABC where he was part of the Monday Night Football coverage with Howard Cosell and Don Meredith. He covered other sports as well. His broadcasting career was highlighted with two Emmy Awards.

R.I.P Mickey Rooney

Just living to 90 would be an achievement for most people. Having a career lasting 80 to 90 years is hard to believe. Mickey Rooney died Sunday at the age of 93 living into his 90s and having a80- 90 year career.

A career lasting so long included film, stage and television. He won two Golden Globes and an Emmy Award. Honored by the Academy Awards twice and numerous nominations. Perhaps being honored three times by the Hollywood Walk of Fame sums up the variety of his work. He was honored for radio, television and Motion pictures.
