Battle of the Bands: I Believe in Father Christmas

You know I couldn't let the Holidays go without at least one themed Battle of the Band. My first Christmas season I did "Run, Rudolph, Run" and "Happy Xmas The War is Over."  Last year it was The Grinch and "Christmas Cookies".  What will it be this year?

Earlier this month Greg Lake passed away. I paid tribute to him here. His song "I Believe in Father Christmas" feels like it would  fit tonight.

I will pick to covers of the song, You my readers decide the winner by voting in the comments and sometime around the Winter Solstice I will count up the votes and declare the winner in another post. If you like this battle check out the other ones. Stephen has the best list of participants at his site.

Contestant One: U2

Contestant Two:  Vertical Horizon

U2 or Vertical Horizon? Who gets your vote? Vote in the comments and we will have a winner soon! Happy Holidays!

R.I.P Chris Squire

Chris Squire a founder, vocalist and bass player extraordinaire of the legendary prog band Yes passed away at the age of 67. I played tribute to the band Yes during the April A to Z Challenge. The post had a lot of great Yes songs if you are searching for more music it is here!

Here is a tune from his 1975 solo album "Fish Out of Water" called "Lucky Seven"...

Here is a rarity. Chris Squire with Jimmy Page and Alan White The XYZ Sessions circa 1981..

Here is a classic Yes track for you with "Roundabout"...

Thank you for the music Chris Squire it will live in on vinyl, video and other recordings. May you rest in peace!

A to Z Challenge: Yes the band

Guess I have a progressive music theme going this week sharing yesterday about the Landless Theatre Company and their prog metal Sweeney Todd. Perhaps not metal but progressive still the same today's topic on the A to Z: Challenge will be the band YES!

Here they are performing "And You and I"...

Here is a vintage performance of "Yours is no Disgrace"..

I came up a few years later and the song that turned me on to this group was "Owner of a Lonely Heart"..

Hope you enjoyed the videos. Have you ever heard of Yes? What are your favorite Yes songs?
Please feel free to share in the comments.

Yes! One more day left in the challenge. Please stay tuned to this blog because I have another Battle of the Bands post coming up on May Day and some other fun stuff to blog about!
