R.I.P Sonny Jurgensen

 I discovered Sonny Jurgensen as a teenager listening to Washington Redskins football games. He had become a broadcaster due to his stellar career with the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins.

                                                Highlights:

A championship with the Eagles in 1960, a member of the Eagles Hall of Fame, and the Redskins Ring of Honor and a NFL Hall of Famer.

He is an athlete from an error which probably belonged to my Father's generation, but past down his take of the modern game as a broadcaster. He will be missed by fans, friends and family!

Blogging from A to Z Challenge 2022: T is for Tim Tebow

 Today's athlete has played two professional sports. Tim Tebow best known for his college glory days of winning two National Championships and a Heisman Trophy Championship.

He played in the NFL most notably with the Denver Broncos and New York Jets.

In 2013 he failed to catch on with the New England Patriots and in 2015 he failed to catch on the Philadelphia Eagles.

In 2016-2019 Tebow pursued a baseball career in the New York Mets farm system. In 2020 he failed to make the Mets in Spring training.

He tried a football comeback as a tight end with the Jacksonville Jaguars this past season but was cut before the regular season.

Blogging from A to Z Challenge 2022: Q is for Quick, Mike Quick

 Today we are going back to the gridiron with the letter Q. Today's athlete is the former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Mike Quick. Quick led the NFL in receiving yards in 1983. He was a five-time Pro Bowler in his nine-year NFL career. He is also inducted in the Eagles Hall of Fame.

Fantasy Football 2-1 start

I'm playing Fantasy Football again this season. I was awarded a B on my draft.

I romped through the opener 171-112. Week two hello injuries. I won 142-116. However, with Carson Palmer I went with Chad Henne which netted me one point. DeSean Jackson was injured and only managed one point. Jordy Nelson and his 50 point day helped me to victory.

Week three I lost 125-117. I benched Jackson who had the injury and he scored 16 points, higher than any of my other receivers. Palmer was still out and Henne lost me 2 points. Chris Johnson at running back really started to fade.

Well it is a new week. I have replaced Henne with Ryan Tannehill. Hopefully Carson Palmer returns after his bye week.

I will probably bench Johnson this week and move Sproles from the flex position and start either Floyd or Douglas in the flex. Fell from first to third last week so I am trying to bounce back.

A to Z Challenge: DeSean Jackson

Today's post in the challenge is D for DeSean. DeSean Jackson was released from the Philadelphia Eagles in the midst of rumors and reports. A NJ.com article. Rumors came out that he fell a sleep in team meetings and wasn't easy to get along with coaching staff and teammates.

Football is a business and the Philadelphia Eagles may have wanted to reduce costs, the Eagles may have grown tired for his demands for more money, and I am sure the Eagles would have prefered to have trade them.

The Coach Chip Kelly recently said he had no problem with DeSean Jackson so I would say that puts in doubt the rumors of him not getting along with coaches. If he fell a sleep in a meeting I am sure that was dealt with.

Questioning his work ethic is hard to do when you look at his production. DeSean Jackson is a three time Pro-Bowl receiver. He is a proven playmaker. Last season he caught 82 passes for 1332 yards and 9 touchdowns. He has had 1000 plus yard seasons three times in his six year career. In addition off the field he hasn't had any incidents. He runs a charitable foundation. Both of them should speak volumes about his character instead of rumors.

The Redskins were willing to take a risk by signing him to a three year deal for 24 million dollars and two of those years guaranteed. I heard some random talking head say they would only sign DeSean to a one year deal so Jackson could prove himself. The Redskins took the risk and signed him. Washington improves their team which is important since they didn't have a first round pick.
