R.I.P Don Shula

90 years is a long life. In his life he became a coaching legend in the NFL, a successful restaurateur, an author and a family man. He coached the Miami Dolphins for 26 seasons. Currently the longest active coach in the NFL with one team is Bill Belichick with 20 seasons. Shula's 33 seasons (his first 7 with the Baltimore Colts) ranks him tied with Curly Lambeau for 2nd place. George Halas tops the list which you can read here.

Don Shula is the only Coach in the NFL to have an undefeated season including playoffs when his 1972 Dolphins won the Super Bowl. Shula had a 2-4 record in Super Bowls. He stopped coaching at the end of the 1995 season. He still has the most wins of any coach in NFL history. He is inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame. If your gonna be a coach I guess being the winningest Coach would put you near the top. 

He co-wrote three books. Two of those with Ken Blanchard of the One Minute Manager fame. I might have to look them up. I'm sure he has some good insights on motivation and leadership. He was involved in a lot of charities as well. He will be missed by fans, the community and family.

  

Fantasy Football: Back with a win

A win is a win even if it only by two points. My team won 137-135.

How did my moves workout?

I mentined some moves I was making this week. Like the Miami Dolphins did in the past I too gave up Chad Henne for Ryan Tannehill. Tannehill produced 22 points for me. Chad Henne watched a rookie play.

I benched Chris Johnson and of course he produced a respectable 10 points. I moved Sproles to running back and went with Floyd in the flex. Floyd gave me 10 points. I was going to go with  Harry Douglas  but I didn't and Douglas did not place.

Duds

Dud of the week from my team DeSean Jackson one point. Cecil Shorts only produced three points thanks to injury. Tom Brady only six points.

This week moves...

Well Tannehill has a bye this week so I have to hope Carson Palmer plays. It looks like Shorts is out this week so I moved Malcolm Floyd to a receiver slot. which means I pull Chris Johnson in the flex spot. Of course it is early in the week..

Fantasy Football 2-1 start

I'm playing Fantasy Football again this season. I was awarded a B on my draft.

I romped through the opener 171-112. Week two hello injuries. I won 142-116. However, with Carson Palmer I went with Chad Henne which netted me one point. DeSean Jackson was injured and only managed one point. Jordy Nelson and his 50 point day helped me to victory.

Week three I lost 125-117. I benched Jackson who had the injury and he scored 16 points, higher than any of my other receivers. Palmer was still out and Henne lost me 2 points. Chris Johnson at running back really started to fade.

Well it is a new week. I have replaced Henne with Ryan Tannehill. Hopefully Carson Palmer returns after his bye week.

I will probably bench Johnson this week and move Sproles from the flex position and start either Floyd or Douglas in the flex. Fell from first to third last week so I am trying to bounce back.

Thoughts on Junior Seau

Yes I blog about the occasional musician death or even rarer the former athlete who died. Junior Seau died today, it looks like he killed himself. You can read an article about it here.So was a great linebacker, from my generation. He isn't someone I watched as a child. He is very close to my age which is scary. I assume being a football star he had wealth. ( I know some find a way to become broke.) I guess Dr. Phil was right when he said "Money doesn't solve problems." I am paraphrasing. I know money could fix my problems and make mew happier. I think Dr, Phil was trying to say money doesn't make you happy. I don't watch a lot of TV or Dr. Phil. But wow, a 43 year old former star, dead  it is very sad. I know there are 43 year old folks who are not famous who die and that is sad too.

Here are some highlights..

He seamed to be a good guy, helped charities, did the right things. However, I guess like most people he had demons too.

As a fan of football thank you Junior for your achievements on the field. To your friends and  fans I wish them peace and may he rest in eace.
