Welcome back to my Battle of the Bands. Unfortunately musicians have been passing away quit frequently this month. My inspiration for this Battle comes from one of those recent deaths. I already wrote the tribute this is just a little more.

The great Leon Russell passed away over the weekend. "A Song for You" had been covered by a lot of artists so it was a great fit for this Battle of the Bands. Vote in the comments. I was considering going to see Leon Russell on Tuesday at the local music club, I missed him the last time he was in town. He was scheduled to open for a group I was interested in seeing in January. So, I thought I had a couple of chances to catch him. Now I will never get catch him live as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame passed away at the age of 74.
The songs he left behind are the greatest gift the songwriter could leave. Amazingly over 100 acts have covered his song "A Song For You." As I listen it to it now I find it just as haunting as I find it beautiful.

My Battle of the Bands this time around was dedicated to B.B. King who passed away. I posted a true tribute to B.B. King the same day which has a few more songs if you missed it feel free to check it out.
Before I get into the competition I did want to post one more song which is quite fitting..:Stay Around A Little Longer."
Two greats right there Buddy Guy and B.B. King. Speaking of two greats I had two greats in my battle of the bands performing the song "Hummingbird." Jimmy Page versus Leon Russell. Leon Russell actually wrote the song, I choose Jimmy Page because his version of the song off of his "Outrider" album was my introduction to the song. Those who missed the competition here is B.B.King performing the song on the David Letterman show.
The voting was close. I think this may have been my must successful Battle of the Bands page view wise and fifteen votes, I am not voting I am just enjoying the music. It is a beautiful song. The versions were different with Leon adding in the choir near the end. However, in the end one more person liked Jimmy Page's version. The vocalist on that song is Chris Farlowe. Farlowe was on three of the nine tracks on the Outrider album. John Miles (who was the vocalist on the tour) was on two tracks which were rock tracks while Farlowe did the more blues songs. Robert Plant guested for one track and the other three tracks on the album were instrumentals.
Here is Chris Farlowe and Jimmy Page on another song from the album. It is an original tune called "Blues Anthem"
The final vote was Jimmy Page 8 Leon Russell 7 and unfortunately one less blues legend. I will back June 1, 2015 with another Battle of he Bands.
I had something totally different planned out for this battle of the bands. Then I heard the news of BB King passing. Which changed everything. This is my second post dedicated to BB King.

I had problem with my internet connection over the weekend, so it is possible I might do multiple posts today. Singer, songwriter, guitarist JJ Cale passed away this weekend at the age of 74 from a heart attack.
JJ Cale was influential to Eric Clapton. Cale had been covered by Lynyrd Skynyrd, Widespread Panic, and Waylen Jennings to name a few.

Allman Brothers
No surprise here The Allman Brothers will be there! They will be playing two nights...

Gov't Mule will be performing featuring Warren Haynes..Here the band plays "Bad Little Doggie" last year at the Festival...
Tedeschi Trucks Band
Derek Trucks will be one of the hardest working musicians at the festival.Playing with the Allman Brothers and his wife...Here they perform "Down Don't Bother Me" last year at Wanee...
Jaimoe's Jasssz Band
Jaimoe is the legendary drummer and one of the founders of The Allman Brothers. He will be busy two playing with the Allman Brothers and his Jasssz Band.

This Tab Benoit led band features some of the best in New Orleans music. Cyril Neville,Waylon Thibodeaux, Johnny Vidacovich, Jumpin' Johnny Sansone, and Big Chief Monk Boudreaux make this a band not to miss.Here they perform "We Make A Good Gumbo"
Dirty Dozen Brass Band
Another New Orleans favorite, the funky Dirty Dozen Brass Band. Here they perform "Ain't Nothin' But A Party" at Bonnaroo 2002....
Royal Southern Brotherhood
This All Star group came together in 2012 and became one of the best blues rock bands of the year. It features Devon Allman and Mike Zito on guitars, Charlie Wooten on bass, Yonrico Scott on drums, and Cyrille Neville on percusion. Cyrille, Devon and Mike provide the vocals. Bobby Lee Rodgers Trio
Like Devon Allman, Bobby Lee Rodgers is no stranger to Wanee. He will be back in 2013. Here he performs Ike Stubblefield from Wanee 2011...
The Lee Boys
The Lee Boys are an incredible Steel Guitar sacred band. They were quite impressive when I saw them last year at the Western Maryland Bluesfest. Here they perform "I'm Not Tired"

Billed as a physcodellic reggae roots band. They will fit nicely at Wanee...Here they perform ".45"
The Revivalists
A New Orleans rock band on the verge of breaking out. They sound worth checking out... Here is their video for "Criminal"

A San Francisco band combining funk, soul with a dash of Physcodellic sound for seasning.

Boombox
Electronic dance music pulling from vintage blues and rock. If thwat sounds like fun then Boombox is a musical unit to check out at Wanee 2013. Below they perform "Mr. Boogie Man"
Flannel Church
Southern flavored funk and R&B create this cool band. It features Derek Truck's little brother Duane on drums. They jammed at Wanee last year and they are returnng this year..Here they perform "Who Knows" at the Legendart Iridium CLub in New York
Yeti Trio
This trio makes improvised fussion music. Here they perform "I'm the Slime"
