This blog spot is the home to my ramblings. I am a free lance writer. Most of my work goes on Associated Content. Sometimes I write what is on my mind, sometimes I plug some of my writing, and sometimes a combination of the two. So, sit back read, enjoy, and we will see where it goes.
Mac McAnally might call himself Mr. Nobody but folks like Jimmy Buffett and Kenny Chesney have taken his songs to the world. This month Battle of the Bands featured Mac's song "Back Where I Come From." Kenny defeated Jimmy Buffett 6 to 1,
We celebrate winners! So, today's post is all about Kenny Chesney!
Last Saturday night I saw Mac McAnnally perfom a special show in Gulfport, Mississippi. Tonight I see him again with The Coral Reefer Band which starts a three city tour in Orange Beach, Alabama. Anyway it is summer rime and the first one without Jimmy Buffett in a long dang time. We will pit Kenny Chesney who had a hit with this one and Mac's late boss and friend Jimmy Buffett.
Contender One...Kenny
Contender Two: Jimmy Buffett
Tell me who gets your vote I will post the results in a week or two. In the maintime enjoy your summer and fins up!
Mac McAnally shut out Kenny Chesney on my latest Battle of the Bands. The Battle fell on Mac's Birthday. Announcing the results a bit more kindly one could say Mac edged out Kenny. Honestly the outcome was similar to a soccer match as the songwriter knocked off the Country star two to nothing.
As always we celebrate the winners!
"It's My Job"
"Down the Road"
I'll see you down the road! Stayed tune as my blog continues and has posts. I won't have a Battle of the Bands on August 1st. I am putting my participation in the Battle of the Bands on hiatus. Maybe I will jump back in down the road. The lowest votes maybe since my first battle. The lowest pageviews for a Battle of the Bands this year in a month where I have had the most pageviews ever. Sounds like a good time for a hiatus. Thanks for visiting and I will see you soon!
It's summer time. Today's song is featured in Jimmy Buffett's set quite a bit because the songwriter has a side gig playing in Jimmy's band. Anyway today will be songwriter versus country star. Let me know which one you like the best in the comments and I will announce a winner in a week or so.
Well I rode out Sally! Was a long night when the category two hurricane hit. I was fortunate the flooding at my house only flooded the yard. The house and truck were spared. Plenty of limbs and branches covered my yard and clean up was quite a task, however I was blessed that none damaged the house or my truck. Just one big limb from one of the tall Live Oak trees could have really ruined my day. The biggest issue was loss of power. 95% of my county lost power including me. We just got power back late Sunday afternoon, so five days of cold showers, no air condition, no reliable internet (cell phone was still spotty for internet). However, I spent about 5 hours helping cleanup at the church and I did check on somebody's elderly parents. I will probably help a few more folks with their cleanup this week. So if I didn't make it to your Battle I apologize, Sally came to visit and she was rather rowdy company!
Anyway my Battle of the Bands for the 15th featured Kenny Chesney versus Mishka covering Jimmy Buffet's "Trying to Reason with Hurricane Season."
Kenny took an early lead. It looked like a shutout early. Mishka did get a couple of votes late to make the final score 5 to 2.
Here is Kenny Chesney performing the song with Jimmy Buffett at a concert I was at a few years back.
Since it is Fall now and football season "The Boys of Fall"
I always liked this one "Young"
"There Goes My Life"
.
I will be back hopefully with another Battle of the Bands and hopefully will not be dealing with another hurricane.
Today's theme on Monday's Music Moves Me is a freebie and I am going to go with a Hurricane Theme. Just to fill everyone my area was hit by a category two hurricane. I rode the storm out. The flooding was quick to recede at my house and the storm left plenty to clean up in the yard. I am blessed the house wasn't damaged or my truck. I just got power back yesterday after five days.
Neil Young "Like a Hurricane"
Bob Dylan "Hurricane"
Jimmy Buffett and Kenny Chesney "Trying to Reason with Hurricane Season"
Anyway it is nice to have power and to be blogging again!
Sally is churning just offshore. I hear the pouring rains and gusting winds outside. As I write this sustained winds are about 33 mph. As I left work this alert popped on my phone...
I guess I am just "Trying to Reason with Hurricane Season"....
Well you know how it works, I find two contenders and you tell me which one you like the best in the comments. I count the votes and announce the winner in a separate post.
Contender One: Kenny Chesney
Contender Two: Mishka
Well I am going to get ready for work and venture out in this mess. I hope you enjoy and I'll see you soon!
I'm going to dance this week! Yeah, nay, and slowly move the fragile items out of my way. Today's theme is songs about what you like about Autumn chosen by the lovely Cathy at Curious as a Cathy.
Summer officially ended this weekend. Where I live it still feels like summer high humidity, temps around 90, and evening thunderstorms. Schools started for the kids but they are already entering their seventh week.
Well since I am far away from the crisp, cool Autumn air which would feel quite refreshing right about now and the other signs of Autumn are so distant there is always music.
Autumn means football! What better way to start the music than with Kenny Chesney's "The Boys of Fall"
I do miss the leaves changing colors and was something I used to look forward too.
Doris Day with "Autumn Leaves"
I like the night air, great for a walk, or fitting for the 4Ms maybe a "Moondance" by Van Morrison
Sure I like other things about Autumn but these three songs is a good start. Thanks for visiting and I will see you soon!
Thanksgiving week had me moving to catch a couple of benefit concerts and a trip to see my parents. Today's M4 them is a freebie so I thought I would share some of the music of the artists I was fortunate to see during this time free.
Last Sunday I was off to Tallahassee, Florida for the sold out Jimmy Buffett lead benefit concert.
The show sold out in 11 minutes which is the fastest a concert has sol out at the venue. I was fortunate to score a couple of tickets.
The artists were changed a bit from the poster, Jake Owen became one of the featured artists and Caroline Jones was the opener /special guest. She was featured quite a bit as well.
Here she is with Jimmy Buffett on the encore..."Breathe in, Breathe Out, Move On"'
Jake Owen did perform this song..
Kenny Chesney "Old Blue Chair"
Toby Keith and Jimmy "Red Solo Cup"
Then this cover with everyone..
A lot of good songs and as a Buffett fan it was nice to see him tell more stories and play more acoustic songs. It was as you would suspect a good time. I will post about the other show at a later time. I hope you enjoyed your visit and I will be back soon.
