Ready for College Football

Okay it is a sports blog today. Don't worry I will be back with posts about theatre, movies, music and stuff soon. I haven't written a bunch on sports lately but those who have followed the blog for a while know I do write about sports.

Anyway, what I call My Rankings returns this year but I am publishing it on Hubpages. I used to publish it on Associated Content, Yahoo! Voices. They have changed so I can't publish them out as quickly so I am making a change. If you want to see if your team is ranked or how high I ranked them you can check out my pre-season ranking here.

I also published one more article on Hubpages as well. This one was on the most devastating football losses for the Florida Gators. If your a Gators fan like me some of them might make you groan. If you like some of the Gators rivals like Georgia and Florida State you might enjoy the article.

I will also be covering football for another site. I will post more about that when I publish something. In the mean time enjoy!

The Fresh Beat Band

Yes the 3PM start time for the Fresh Beat Band did come as a surprise. I had to sign my daughter out of school and had the long ride home in rush hour to deal with. However, it was all worth it. My daughter had a wonderful time! You can read my review here.

I applaud Wolf Trap for setting up a lost kids station at the concert knowing the Fresh Beat Band would draw a lot of young kids. An ounce of prevention goes along way!

Yesterday was a great day for my daughter and I. I hope I am blessed with many more!

R.I.P. Neil Armstrong

43 years ago last month Neil Armstrong became the first man to walk on the moon. Today at the age of 82 he died. You can read the NY Times article on his death. What a live astronaut, test pilot, and engineer. Quite a life of adventure, exploration and discovery.

Review: Sara Jackson-Holman

I reviewed Sara Jackson-Holman's new album "Cardiology" over at CW's Place you can read my review here. Pretty good if you like piano and female vocals. She is sometimes compared to Adele and Amy Winehouse or at least in that style. You can read more reviews here as the site covers a lot of Indie Music as well as Christian music.

As always I try to add something different than just my review.

Dog Days of Summer: Follow Up

Well school has started. My little girl started kindergarten and my stepson has started another year in high school. Though in his case it is like he didn't have a summer with summer school and band. Scurrying around getting doctor's appointments going to open houses and orientations have put a pinch on summer time.

Summer does not end with me until the calendar says it is fall and then I still try to push it. However, for kids it ends a little early with school. One of the posts on the Dog Days of Summer Blog Fest was about summer plans so I am following that up. My daughters school officially started yesterday with a two hour orientation from 1-3. Tuesday, I ran some errands in the morning and took her the Catoctin Zoo.


Don't worry we saw lots of animals and witnessed the feedings of the alligators and monkeys. We also fed plenty of deer, goats, and pigs. After words we went to family night and then went to the County Fair. My son was playing in the band and wanted to hang out with his friends after. So after his performance I signed him out and gave him money. I went with my daughter and we met firefighters, had her face painted, dug for fossils, played on bouncy things, saw horses, goats, cows, chickens, turkeys and rabbits. We also went on a Ferris Wheel.

Wednesday my son had his first day of school. I still had a few hours before Evelyn had to be at orientation so I took her to one last movie "Shrek Forever After." Here is a trailer for that film:

Today is her first full day of school her mom and I dropped her off but she gets to ride the bus home. It should be an adventure for her since she has never been in a school bus before. Don't worry I have a special concert planned for her next week. Like I said summer isn't over yet.

Blood and Donuts

No not the breakfast of champions but the title of a movie I reviewed. I decided to branch out into movie reviews and will be reviewing a few for a site called Disturbing Films. Blood and donuts is not even the breakfast of champion vampires. Could it be? Watch out Wheaties..

R.I.P. Scott McKenzie

Another hippie gone. Scott McKenzie gained fame for singing the song "San Francisco."  You might now the song about putting a flower in your hair. I discovered it via Led Zeppelin they added it to one of their "Whole Lota Love" medleys and I researched it and liked the song. Here you can take a listen..

You can read his obit here from the Telegraph. The song was written by John Phillips of The Mamas and the Papas. Scott co-wrote the Beach Boys song "Kokomo"

It is a shame he didn't really have another hit of his own..Here is about as close to it as he came..
