Battle of the Bands Results: Keith Urban wins with a shutout

Keith Urban was the biggest name in my Battle he is the star. John Hiatt writes great songs but he isn't necessarily a household name. Davy Knowles might be a talented guitarist and as cool as it might be to open for Jeff Beck, I don't think our star would open for anyone. Our star didn't share any votes as Keith won 3-0.

I like all three, they all have talent.  However we celebrate winners.

"Start a Band" with Brad Paisley

"Blue Ain't Your Color"

"Wild Hearts"

Stay tuned I will have another Battle on October 1st.

My 2021-22 NCAA Football Rankings After Week 1

My NCAA Football Rankings after one full week of college football in the books.

1) Alabama Crimson Tide (1-0) crushed then ranked 14th Miami 44-13. In other words Alabama took care of business. The Crimson Tide should have an easy time with Mercer next week.

2) Georgia Bulldogs (1-0) topped Clemson 10-3. The Tigers are considered a playoff challenger and the Bulldogs defense shut them down. The Bulldogs host UAB next week.

3) Ohio State Buckeyes (1-0) trailed at halftime but defeated the Minnesota Gophers 45-31. Face a bigger challenge with Oregon next week.

4) Texas A&M Aggies (1-0) crushed Kent 41-10. The Aggies visit Colorado next.

5) Cincinnati Bearcats (1-0) cruised past Miami(Ohio) 49-14. The Bearcats host Murray State next.

7) Iowa State Cyclones (1-0) defeated Northern Iowa 16-10. The Cyclones face a tough match up with Iowa.

8) Iowa Hawkeyes (1-0) crushed Indiana 34-6. I will move them up on my poll, but will have another showdown with Iowa State next.

9) Penn State Nittany Lions (1-0) knocked off 12th rank Wisconsin to move up on my poll. Next up Ball State visits Penn State.

10) Notre Dame  Fighting Irish (1-0) blew an 18 point lead against the Florida State Seminoles. The luck was with the Irish as they won 41-38 in overtime. The Irish should have an easier time with Toledo.

11) Clemson Tigers (0-1) lost their showdown match. The Tigers should rebound against South Carolina State.

12) Oregon Ducks (1-0) defeated Fresno State 31-24. The Buckeyes will be a bigger match up.

Battle of the Bands: Slow Turning

Everyone who has followed my Battle of the Bands post knew I would probably come up with a way to tip the hat to Charlie Watts. The Rolling Stones were my first Battle of he Bands. I used them a few times and probably will again. However, I like twists.

Today's song features the lyrics:

"Now I'm yellin' at the kids in the back

Cuz they're banging like Charlie Watts"

The song is "Slow Turning" from the should be great songwriter John Hiatt. It is also the cover song to a fantastic album. His songs have been covered by B.B. King, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Buffett, and many more.

The original...

Contender One Davy Knowles

A solid guitarist from the Isle of Wright. I have seen him a few times at Blues Festivals but the first time I saw him was opening for Jeff Beck at the Electric Factory in Philadelphia.

Contender Two: Keith Urban

A Country Superstar, a modern day guitar hotshot..

I like all three artist. I miss Charlie Watts banging on the drums. However on this song who do you like better Davy or Keith? Let me know in the comments

R.I.P Charlie Watts

The drummer, the time keeper of the Rolling Stones Charlie Watts has passed away at the age of 80.

It wasn't the spotlight, the flash that made Charlie a star. It was the absence of that. It was simply his talent.

Below CBS News reports of his death...

"Miss You"

The songs will probably fade away on this post. Charlie's legacy will live on in the recordings, he will always be the beat of the Rolling Stones, Charlie will be missed by peers, bandmates, family, friends and fans may he rest in peace!

Battle of the Bands: Summer in the City

Back for another round  of the Battle of the Bands, however I will be changing to once a month on the first going forward.  Anyway the heat is in full effect where I am, it is summer time so the song Summer in the City" sounds appropriate.

                                               The original The Lovin' Spoonful...

The format I find the original for a reference, then I find two cover versions. You vote on what cover you like the best in the comments. I announce a winner in a new post in a week or so.

Contender One: Joe Cocker

Contender Two: The Drifters

Tell me which one you liked the best Joe Cocker or The Drifters?  Thanks for visiting and I will see you soon!
