Muhammad Ali was perhaps the first athlete I remember. Muhammad Ali is considered to be the greatest boxer of all time. He had a career record of 56-5 with 37 knock outs.
Here is his second fight with Leon Spinks, where he won the Heavyweight title for the third time.

Marvelous Marvin Hagler was one of the greatest boxers of my lifetime. A pro record of 62 Wins 3 Losses 2 Draws. His final fight was a split decision loss to Sugar Ray Leonard.
Highlights of one of his fights...
His career span 14years and included being named boxer of the year in 1983 and 1985. Boxing Illustrated called him the best boxer of the 80s. A Hall of Famer and a long time Champion. He dominated his sport, his legacy will live on. He will be missed by his fans, friends and family.
Boxer Leon Spinks passed away last week. Spinks was an Olympic Gold Medalist who won the light heavyweight division in the 1976 Olympics in Montreal. He is most famous for defeating Muhammad Ali in 1978 and becoming the Heavy Weight Champion of the world. He would lose a rematch and his career never reach those lofty heights again.
In the end cancer defeated Spinks. He will be missed by his family, friends and fans.
It is hard to believe George Foreman turns 67 today. George became famous for the sport of boxing. Boxing is sort of fading away in the sports world or at least to me. I see it being replaced by Ultimate Fighting and Mixed Martial Arts. Those sports haven't grabbed me like boxing. Not that I'm the biggest boxing fan on the planet. However, there was something magical about those big boxing matches in the 70s, 80s and 90s.
Foreman was a two-time world heavyweight champion and Olympic Gold Medalist. He won the title the first time against Joe Frazier who was undefeated at the time and regarded as a great boxer. He lost his title to the great Muhammad Ali. He would regain the title at the age of 45 and was the oldest heavyweight champion ever.

Foreman has been inducted into the World Boxing Hall of Fame and International Boxing Hall of Fame.

Outside the ring he is known for the George Foreman grill. He earned about $200 million from the grill. He also went on to be an author and a minister. We wish him a Happy Birthday and many more years.
Rubin "Hurricane" Carter died today at the age of 76 he was battling prostate cancer. The name might not ring a bell to some. Rubin Carter was a boxer in the 1960s. He was a contender compiling a record of 27-12-1.

Rubin Carter was convicted twice for multiple murders he did not commit. The conviction ended his boxing career. His 19 years in prison. A movie was made about his life and here is the trailer...

He lost a career, he lost many years of his freedom, and somehow turned into a better person through it. May he rest in peace.
