A to Z Challenge: Unbelievable the Woman's Basketball Championship

Continuing on in the A to Z Challenge, I am staying with college basketball this time I am going to write about the woman's tournament.

What was so unbelievable? UConn lost. The Huskies hadn't lost in a few years, they rolling along, and then boom they were upset. Then the team that upset them lost in the finals. That is unbelievable!

Above are highlights of Mississippi State upsetting Connecticut and snapping the Huskies 111-game win streak. That ride was amazing and I don't think anyone was thinking they would get upset. Nothing against the Huskies but I am glad they lost that kind of dominance wasn't good for the woman's game. It was like there was the Huskies and then everyone else. On the flip side I am sure they brought in some fans to the game as well.

Then in the finals the South Carolina Gamecocks took out the Mississippi State Bulldogs...

If you are a fan of woman's basketball are you glad UCONN's streak came to an end? Do you find it unbelievable that they lost? Do you find it unbelievable that South Carolina won their first championship?

Steve Spurrier The Ole Ball Coach calling in quits

Steve Spurrier ESPNWeekend2010-056.jpg

Steve Spurrier likes winning! He was good at it. However, a mediocre season for him last year and the South Carolina Gamecocks starting the season 2-4 Steve has decided to retire.

As a player he won the Heisman Trophy Award while with the Florida Gators and played in the NFL.
He was a successful coach in the USFL.

He found success coaching Duke. The Blue Devils were not a football powerhouse but  Spurrier coached them to winning seasons two out of his three seasons there.

At Florida, Spurrier coached a powerhouse to a National championship, and nine top 10 seasons.

The NFL he did not have success but returned to the SEC where he had success again at South Carolina.

The record 228-89-2.  His quotes and personality will be missed.

The College World Series

The college World Series starts today. I am rooting for the Florida Gators who are loaded with talent. The SEC is well represented with Arkansas and South Carolina as well. Florida State, Arizona and UCLA are also in it. Surprise teams Kent State and Stony Brook!

It is neat to add even though the Gators have had some great baseball teams they have never won the College World Series. Anyway, I wrote an article on the top drafted players playing in this College World Series you can read it hear.

It will give you so names to check out during this year's series as those players will be trying to make big league clubs soon!

Hats of to South Carolina

I was hoping the Florida Gators would win their first College World Series Championship. Instead, the South Carolina Gamecocks defended their championship. The SEC is more than football with three teamsi n the FInal Four.

The Gamecocks deserve the kudos. They knocked off top seed Virginia and then knocked off the second seeded Gators to win the championship. They swept the Gators two games to none. South Carolina showed they were number one.

Tak about your power conference South Carolina, Vandy, and Florida were among the last four teams remaining in Omaha.
