The Texas Rangers did a great job getting to their first World Series. The San Francisco Giants did a better job in their first World Series appearance in five decades. The Giants made short work of the Rangers winning the series in five games.
In more important baseball news (to Beau Torbert fans anyway)..Beau Torbert has signed with the Atlanta Braves according to the Sioux Falls Pheasants site. Details state it is a Class AA/ Class AAA contract. The article also stated he won a few more awards I had not mentioned in my earlier posts. Most notably Beau "was named Baseball America’s 2010 Independent Player of the Year."
The best news is Beau gets a chance to pursue his major league dreams and play in organized ball again. He started with the Astros and had a chance with the Tigers. Now he is in the Braves organization.

Pheasants, Beau Swept in Championship
Beau Torbert wasn't able to win any new awards. The Pheasants were swept three games to none. In the series Sioux Falls didn't show much offense. The Pheasants will have to enjoy being Northern Division Champs. Beau had a tremendous season for the Pheasants and stayed healthy.
Well that wraps up the Beau Torbert updates for this season. I will blog about any Beau news if I hear any in the off season. Will Beau be back in organized baseball next year? Will he be back with the Pheasants? I will have those answers.

Beau Knows Awards
Beau was named the American Association Player of the Year. He was also named the player of the month for August. Beau Torbert and the Sioux Falls Pheasants can aslo add a Northern Division pennant to their awards. The team is waiting for the American Association Finals. Here is a link to a great article about Beau and his awards.(Also the source for this blog)
Beau Torbert also won his second American Association MVP Award, his first one he won in 2008. Injuries held him back from winning one last year but he bounced back well this year. The Pheasants Manager Bob Shirley won the manager of the year award just like he did in 2008. Here is a link to that article.
Also from that article here are some records Beau set along the way..
"He won the batting title with a .394 batting average, the highest in both league and team history.""His 100 RBI was tops in the league and set a new team record.""Torbert amassed 155 hits this season, breaking the previous league record (148) and team record (136) for hits in a season.""Torbert also set a team record for doubles in a season and a league record for total bases on one season. " Needless to say Beau had one heck of a season in the American Association, hopefully Torbert and the Pheasants can top it off with a championship.

First Beau Torbert Update of 2010
Some how with the big snow, the cold, the holidays I missed this..
Beau Torbert signed to play with the Sioux Falls Canaries for 2010. I know Beau fans would have liked to have seen him get another chance at "organized" baseball. Canaries fans should be glad he is coming back. Hopefully, he will be able to stay healthier in 2010. He was able to do a lot in 65 games, however if he stays healthy he could be in the running for MVP honors again.

Weekly Beau Torbert Update
Beau Update:
Beau has played in 50 games now! Injuries really have cost him this season, in terms of games played and a trip to the American Association All-Star game. However, Beau Torbert deserves a lot of credit to continue to put in some great offensive numbers. He has a lot of errors (5) and I wonder if that was due to his injuries or lack of playing time? He hasn't added to that total in a while which is good.
Beau leads the team in batting, and would be fourth in the league if he had played enough games. He is batting .347 68 hits in 196 at bats. Torbert has scored 24 runs while driving in 40(which is 3rd on the team).
He has 7 home runs, which is tied for the team lead. Beau is tied for the team lead with 2 triples. Beau has 5 doubles as well. He has a slugging percentage of .500(which leads the team) and an on base percentage of .401.
Beau's team the Sioux Falls Canaries are 13-20 in the second have and the Canaries are 7 games back. Beau will have a hard time being MVP this season and his team probably won't make the playoffs.

Beau Torbert Update-5.27
The Sioux Falls Canaries continue there slow start 4-8 so far in this young season. However, Beau Torbert's bat has begun to sizzle. Beau is batting .362 with 17 hits in 47 at bats. Beau has two doubles and a homer. Beau leads the teams in runs batted in with 9. Torbert has a stolen base and has scored five runs.
On the negative side Beau has committed one error. Stats are from Americanassociationbaseball.com. He is 10th in the league in batting. The season is still young so it is a little early to look at where he is among the league leaders. It's still early to look at standings, too. However he is hitting well in this young season. More Beau Torbert updates to come..

Beau Torbert A Canary Again
MLN Sports "The Raw Feed" www.mlntherawfeed.com report Beau Torbert has signed with the Sioux Falls Canaries for 2009. Also pitcher Kris Regas, was signed by the Canaries. Both Regas and Torbert were signed by the Detroit Tigers organization but were cut at the end of Spring Training.
The Canaries should be a lot better with the return of one of their top pitchers and the return of the leagues MVP. Hopefully, Beau will have another great season and have an other opportunity to join a MLB organization's system.
I will follow Beau like I did last year and provide occasional updates on how he and his team are doing. Stay tuned for more on Beau...

Tigers Pick Up Beau Torbert
Yet another Beau Torbert update...and here I was not going to blog about sports as much on this blog. The Sioux Falls Canaries are reporting Beau Torbert's contract has been purchased by the Detroit Tigers. According to the article it looks like Beau will be competing for a spot in the Detroit Tigers AAA or AA minor league teams this Spring.
Beau Torbert has appeared in AA and AAA before in 2007. He started the year in Corpus Christi (AA) and spent some time at Round Rock (AAA) for the Houston Astros organization. After being a late spring training cut by the Astros and spending the past season in the independent American Association it did not take Beau long to get back into organized ball. Where Beau will end up will be decided at the Tigers Spring Training in Lakeland, Florida.
The Detroit Tigers AA team is the Erie (PA) SeaWolves and the AAA team is the Toledo(Ohio) Mud Hens.

Beau Torbert and The Sioux Falls Canaries win Championship
Well, Beau Torbert and his Sioux Falls team mates won the American Association Baseball Championship series over the Grand Prairie AirHogs three games to one. A Championship, great stats, and being named the leagues player of the year should make this a memorable season for Beau Torbert. A nice way to rebound from being released by the Astros organization. Soon after the celebration of the championship dies down one has to wonder what is next for Beau? Will someone in organized ball pick him up? If so at what level? If organized ball doesn't pick him up will Beau return to the Canaries? Will he play for another independent team? The questions Beau and his fans will ponder over the off season.
