The Trade Deadline: One of Baseball's Interesting Days

Today is Major League Baseball's trade deadline. Sure trades can happen after the deadline but players need to pass through waivers. This is the time of year for the blockbuster trades.

The Trade Deadline

I love this day in baseball! Teams give up on the season while other teams try to scramble to find the missing piece or pieces to make a run.Big name players are sent away to shred payroll, for prospects, and new hope. As a fan it is kind of fun to see where your favorite players end up. It is also fun to see if your team ended up being buyers or sellers.

Biggest Fire Sale appears to be happening in Philadelphia. The Phillies have traded their center fielder Shane Victorino to the Los Angeles Dodgers for a relief pitcher and a prospect. Here are some highlights from Shane..

Last night the Chicago Cubs sent pitcher Paul Maholm (9-6) and outfielder Reed Johnson to the Atlanta Braves for a couple of players.

I love it and there are still deals being made! 

Doctor No No!

Congrats to Roy Halladay! His Philadelphia Phillies won the National League East. He pitched a perfect game in the regular season (you can read about that one here). More Congrats he had a heck of a season winning 21 games. Then today he hurls the first no hitter in a division series and the first no hitter in the post season since the 50's. You can read more about it here.

His no hitter is what baseball needs. It stirs interest as the game reaches for the World Series. However, now baseball  competes with football and more sports around the corner. This is when baseball needs outstanding performances like the no hitter.

Sports

Well the World Series starts on Wednesday. It features the New York Yankees against the defending champion Philadelphia Phillies. It should be great series. I didn't get around to writing a preview of the Philadelphia Phillies, however I did write a preview of the New York Yankees which you can read here.

In college football I mixed up the rankings once again this week. You can view the new rankings here. It is a great time of year for college footbal since their are great conference match up games and rivalry games. Boise State and TCU look like they are getting ready to give their best efforts to break into the BCS bowls.

My Fantasy Football Team had another blowout win. A lot of my success is that I have been able to fill in for injuries and prepare for bye weeks. However, next week looks like I will be down one quarterback and a running back. It still looks like my team should win, however it will be closer than the last two weeks.

Busy as a B

This month has been a little crazy for me. Kind of like the way the economy has been this month...

Anyway my parents were up for a week. I had a meeting Friday to go to and a dinner to attend Saturday. I also made time to do some volunteer hours in the wee hours of Saturday morning.
Then my spurt of writings have continued.

I expect to be pretty busy writing article right through the end of this week. I plan to do one more on the Polls in West Virginia, one on Colorado, on on Missouri, and another on the West Virginia Presidential election. Plus I might pick up a couple of more. That depends how busy life gets. I have another meeting to go to Thursday and I have plans on Friday with the family. Plus I have the day job thing to keep me busy.
