R.I.P Kris Kristofferson

Kris Kristofferson passed away leaving Willie Nelson as the last remaining Highwayman.

It was a "Sunday Morning Coming Down"

Above is a classic trailer of the 1981 film "Rollover" not only was Kris a singer/songwriter but he had an acting career. His roles in The Blade Trilogy stand out to me. However, I did get to see him in concert opening up for Bob Dylan.

He wrote "Me and Bobby McGee" which was made famous by Janis Joplin.

He had a successful life and career. At 88 he lived a full life, but he will be missed by his friends, colleagues and fans.

Battle of the Bands Results: An Outlaw Won

Another close battle on my Battle of the Bands battle but not a tie.

Willie Nelson versus Waylon Jennings in a tribute to Gregg Allman of the Allman Brothers Band. Jam Bands, Southern Rock and Outlaw Country combining for this battle. Yes, I have a musical blender I throw song titles in and boom I my battle is created.

The Battle was streaky but Waylon Jennings prevailed 5 to 3.

We celebrate winners so hold on for some music!

Some people say that about me, but continuing on..

It is all about "Honkey Tonk Heroes"

and a shout out to Texas..

Stay tuned for a new Battle on July 1.

2016 A to Z Challenge: H is for Haggard

I tend to pay tribute to entertainers who pass away on my blog. On his 79th birthday, April 6, 2016, Country legend Merle Haggard passed away. Haggard is credited along with Buck Owens for creating the Bakersfield sound. He is also known for his Outlaw Country.

His inductions into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame, the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Country Music Hall of Fame would be enough to call Merle a legend. A Kennedy Center Honors, a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, and BMI Icon Award was just icing on his cake. To me the numerous artists he influence and his 38 chart topping hits makes him a legend.

His first number one hit "I'm a Lonesome Fugitive"...

One of my favorites "Mama Tried"...

His last number one "Twinkle, Twinkle Lucky Star"

I could share song after song and they all would be gems. What is your favorite Merle Haggard song? Do you have a great Merle Haggard memory? Feel free to share in the comments. He will be missed by musicians, fans and family may he rest in peace.

Stay tuned for my Battle of the Bands results post on Sunday and on Monday the A to Z Challenge continues.
