Blogging from A to Z Challenge 2022: Lindsey Vonn

 Last week of the challenge and I am bringing up a different sport Woman's Alpine Skiing. Of course that means a new athlete in Lindsey Vonn. She won four overall Woman's World Cup Champion. The first USA woman's skier to win a Gold Medal in the Olympics. Winning 82 World Cup races she is the greatest female ski racer from the USA and one of the greatest in the world.

Lindsey Vonn Calling it a Career

Lindsey Vonn the greatest American woman skier is calling it career. One could make a case for her being the top woman skier of all time. Only one other female skier has won the overall World Cup Championship four times. Vonn's 20 World Cup titles is more than any other skier has won. The most by a man is 19.

The Olympics might be her weakest spot on her ski resume.  Two bronze medals and a lonely gold one. That Gold one was in the downhill and was the first won by an American woman.

Lindsey's 82 World Cup wins is a woman's record. The men's record is 86.

Her latest crash...

Injuries are the reason she is retiring. 

She has had a great career. The United States has some wonderful woman ski racers but Linsey's boots will be hard to fill.

My Top Five Athletes of the Past 10 years

An assignment I had for an article was to name the top five athletes of the past five years. You can read my article here. My explanations are in my article. Any list like this leaves off other athletes who could deserve to be on a list like mine. However, these are my choices but I enjoy the debates, the comments, suggestions after all an article like this should stir some up.

U.S. Woman Ski Team Has Arrived

No American woman had one the Gold Medal for the Olympic Downhill before Lindsey Vonn did it yesterday. That is saying a lot as the U.S. has had some talented woman skiers like Picabo Street and Diann Roff in the past.

Not only did an American woman win the gold yesterday, they won the silver as well. Julia Mancuso came in second place. The U.S. Woman's ski teram has arrived at Vancover. It was the woman's first event, with more races still to be had the U.S. Woman have a very good opportunity to add to their medal count.

The men are there too. Bode Miller finshed third in the men's downhill only .02 seconds away from the Gold. What a race, where Gold, Silver, and Bronze where only seperated by .02 seconds.
