21 years ago the end of Nirvana

In my late teens and early twenties Seattle's grunge scene was becoming quite popular on rock radio, MTV(yes they once played music) and among my friends. One of the most popular of these groups was Nirvana.

Nirvana ended 21 years ago today when the frontman, singer, songwriter, guitarist for the band blew his mind out with a shotgun joining the infamous 27 Club. I describe his death rather bluntly. There music was blunt, it was rock and roll. For the bluntness I offer..

"All Apologies"

One of their biggest hits and a song I remember hearing a lot of in my college days was "Smells Like Teen Spirit"

Nirvana would be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014. The band has also sold 25 million albums in the United States and over three times that world wide. In 1992 the band won two MTV Music Awards.

"Come As You Are"

It is hard to believe it has been 21 years since Kurt Cobain passed away. It sames like it was not that long ago. However, the music lives on in video and recordings. Thanks for visiting. I will be back soon kicking off week two of the A to Z: Challenge.

A to Z Challenge: Nirvana

Recently Nirvana was inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Sadly their lead singer Kurt Cobain killed himself to join "the 27 Club."

Unlike the kid who said "Kurt Cobain made the band" time has certainly been good to fellow Nirvana band mate Dave Grohl who has had tremendous success with The Foo Fighters and recently sames to have a midas touch in Rock.

I do like the way how Nirvana has regrouped recently with singers who are vastly different from Cobain so there is no comparison or competition with the late singer.

Like when they regrouped with Paul McCartney..

No one is going to compare Paul McCartney and Curt Cobain they contrast so much in generation, style, and music. At the Hall of Fame they let the girls sing..

Or Lorde..

Bringing new textures and connecting the band with their former generation and today's generation.
I was always partial to Nirvana being interpreted by other artists like Tori Amos..

but this is in tribute to..

Well I hope you enjoyed your visit come back tomorrow as the challenge continues with an O!

Amy Winehouse R.I.P.

Curt Cobain I think perhaps wanted to join the 27 club, Amy Winehouse I don't think she really wanted to join it. Amy had her demons she was battling, I think in the end her demons won. In the end, we have lost a talented singer.

It isn't an opinion that she was a talented singer. Her debut album won 5 Grammy Awards, there has to be talent in order to pull off that feat. Perhaps one day we will be lucky to hear the album she was working on. Like so many artists who have died to young we will never know what her talent and creativity would have brought if she lived a longer life.

I love the blues and guitar music I often think what would have happened if Jimi Hendrix would have lived longer. Could you imagine the songs Janis Joplin would have sang? The lyrics Jim Morrison would have composed? We could go right down the list of the 27 club and ask questions. Now we ask questions about Amy Winehouse.

Here is Amy performing her hit song Rehab:

Here is some other coverage of her death:

Amy Winehouse may your demons now leave you alone and may you rest in peace. Thank you for the songs that we can still listen too.
