Battle of the Bands: Don't Fear the Reaper

I'm surprised I haven't chosen this song before. Honestly it is probably better known more for cowbells than covers. Below is the Blue Oyster Cult classic "Don't Fear the Reaper."

I found my inspiration for my contenders in the movies.

Contender One Gus (Gus Black)

Contender Two: Keep Shelly in Athens

Let me know who you like in the comments!

The first one was starting to annoy me with the harsh acoustic guitar, but then the cello kicked in and won me over. The second one was very nice but maybe too much nice to sustain interest.

Give my vote to Gus Black.

I vote to Keep Shelley In Athens. I liked her voice.

Some things, you just don't mess with, because they got it right the first time.

Granted, the classic version by BOC could have used more cowbell, but other than that, they got it right the first time.

Whoever this Gus Black guy is... smh... OK, I could see starting it out in super-slow ballad motion just for the shock value. But to continue crawling through the entire song like a wounded, limping worm... NO! (Gus needs to discover and get hooked on drugs. And I mean the kind that rev you up, not slow you down. Did he eat an entire bag of grass and smoke a potato chip?!!)

By contrast, Shelly (whoever she is) at least sounded like she was still breathing and not already six-feet-under.

Well, This is a hard song to win me over to someone other than the original but I vote for Gus as she was just beige paint to me.

I got bored listening to Gus play practice notes at the beginning. Did he ever play the real tune? or was the entire thing just him 'practicing'?

Shally put a bit of a spooky spin on the tune, but at least it was tolerable. For that, give my vote to Shelly.
