Monday's Music Moves Me: Keep Counting

This week's theme on Monday's Music Moves Me is a freebie. I thought since last week's theme of songs with numbers in the title was fun I would continue on since I only got to 5.

Let's start the dance off with 6 and 7...

Robert Plant "Sixes and Sevens"

The Beatles "Eight Days a Week"

Follow the Beatles with a solo song from George Harrison "Cloud                                                           Nine"

                                          Otis Taylor "Ten Million Slaves"

                                         Primus "Eleven"

                                         Jimmy Buffett "Twelve Volt Man"

Hope you enjoyed and see you next time around!

15 Years Gone: George Harrison

Hard to believe it has been 15 years since George Harrison passed away. It has been three years since the last time I marked his passing. Time goes by and "All Things Must Pass"

I know I might be repeating some songs but at least I am trying to mix up the versions. The tour I wanted to see was George with Eric Clapton but it never went state side.Below they perform "Something"...

The Beatles "Here Comes the Sun"

George Harrison "Dark Horse"

I will be back again soon with a new post!

Battle of the Bands: Here Comes The sun

On my results post for my last Battle , I had mentioned a related artist Phil Keaggy. Cherdo commented on the post "I'm thinking someone ought to be doing Phil Keaggy (there's never enough Keaggy in the world)."

I read my comments and I'm open to suggestions.

I'll pick a song and share a video with the original artist or someone who made the song famous. Then I pick two contenders to battle it out to see whose cover is best. Who decides the winner? You do when you vote in the comments.

If you like these battles. Check out the other ones going on. This site has the most up to date list of Battles.

It has been really rainy where I live and the sky has been pretty gray. So, I think The Beatles "Here Come the Sun" is quite fitting.

The Song: Well here is George doing the song

George Harrison and The Beatles are not in the competition.

Challenger One: Phil Keaggy

Challenger Two: Nina Simone

I like this Battle. A great song. Two wonderful versions competing against each other. Both done by very respected artists and both are different. Vote please! I'll post the results around the 21st and I will have a new Battle come Saturday.

George Harrison's Birthday

I published a similar post last year to celebrate the late George Harrison's 7oth birthday. This year I felt it was appropriate to celebrate him again. 2014 has already seen the Beatles celebrated for their 50th anniversary of their first concert in the USA. George Harrison was a guitarist in the band who like Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and John Lennon went on to have a notable solo career. I'll try to mix up the videos this year to show something a bit different.

Here is a fan created version of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" performed by The Beatles. Last year I posted a video of George playing it solo with some musical all stars.

Here is another great Beatle's song that really highlights George called "Here Comes the Sun"

Here is George playing a solo song from the late 80's "Got My Mind Set On You"

George talks about the Beatles break up

George Harrison maybe gone but he is not forgotten. We celebrate his birthday.

Celebrating George Harrison

Perhaps George Harrison's solo career did not match that of his former Beatles band mates John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Maybe George doesn't grab attention like Ringo Starr. None the less, George Harrison did have a solid solo career despite his lack of touring. Harrison was also an important member of the Fab Four. Today marks 12 years since the guitarist passed away.

All things Must Pass including George..

Here is one great rythym guitarist talking about another. Keith Richards on George Harrison..

Hopefully he found "Cloud Nine"

I bet his guitar still "Gently Weeps"

A true song of hope..

We all remember when he was fab...

He is missed. what George songs do you like?

Happy Birthday George Harrison

Today would have been George Harrison's 70th birthday. He was the one Beatle that was still alive when I was able to drive that I did not get to see in concert. George didn;t help to much by not touring often. His album "Cloud Nine" grabbed me more than any of the other Beatles' solo stuff. Perhaps a bit of that was due to Jeff Lynne. Perhaps he was a bit cooler in my mind working with The Traveling Wilburys or his friendship with Eric Clapton. Maybe it was as simple as he was in one of the greatest rock bands The Beatles and he was a talented songwriter. Either way, I am a fan of his music. Cancer robbed the world of a great musician too soon.

Here is an All-Star version of "As My Guitar Gently Weeps" from 1987 with Elton John, Ringo, Eric Clapton, Phil Collins and more...

George Harrison performing "Something" from a concert in 1992..

Here he performs a song "When We We're Fab"

Happy Birthday and we miss George!

R.I.P. Ravi Shankar

Ravi Shankar who many consider to be the best sitar player in the world died sat the age of 92. He is regarded as the person who introduced the sitar to the West. H was friends and an influence on George Harrison. He performed at the Monterrey Pop Festival, Woodstock and the Concert for Bangladesh. He influenced the world of rock and roll when they search for world music and the music of India.

To the current generation of music fans he may be best known as the father of Norah Jones. HE was a master of Indian classic music, an influence on the world music scene, and a father to two daughters who continue to make music.

I found a tribute to Ravi...

Here he is performing with his daughter Anoushka..

Here is an interview with Ravi and George Harrison

We are grateful Ravi lived a long live and for his musical legacy he left behind. We celebrate his life and talents. Thanks Ravi Shankar and R.I.P.

I will be back son with a new post...

Eleven years ago today..George Harrison

Eleven years ago today George Harrison, the guitarist for The Beatles and a solo artist after the band broke up passed away at the age of 58.

All Things Must Pass...

I would have loved to have seen him concert. This is probably the tour I wanted to see the most but they only toured Japan..and he was touring with Eric Clapton

Here is George with the Fab Four...

58 is still a bit young to go. He is missed. I will be back with a new post soon.
