Thoughts on the film "Bohemian Rhapsody"

Queen sold me on "Bohemian Rhapsody".  A film over two hours long featuring the music of Queen yes I'm buying the ticket to experience it in IMAX sound. Of course I might of bought the ticket just to listen to there music.

Spanning 15 years and concentrating on Freddie Mercury the film wasn't designed to be the deepest movie. Things may have been missed, depth may not have been shown on a subject. Your favorite Queen song might not make the soundtrack.

The rise of Queen, a doomed love story, innuendos, breakups, reunions, HIV, and music are the ingredients of the film. . Delivered in "Almost Famous" vibe, with a good dose of humor and plenty of music.  If you like Queen the movie is worth a look. In the end a tribute to Freddie.

Disclaimer: I paid my fare to watch the movie on the big screen.

Remembering Freddie Mercury

22 years ago Freddie Mercury passed away. One of the top front men of all time, a great singer, and a member of a band all of my kids have enjoyed, I enjoyed as a kid and now, the band of course is Queen.

Here is how many of us heard the news on MTV..

I think I will share a few of my favorites here. I am sure I will miss some but I have blogged about Queen before so there may be a few more.

Here he performs "Living on My Own"...

As an adult I can relate to this song, which also features David Bowie..

This song hooked me as a kid on this band, my son and daughter have both enjoyed this song as well..

We will end with this one..

Thanks for stopping bye I will be back soon with a new post!

A to Z: Queen

There is a kind of magic about Queen. Over the years I have come to respect Brian May as a guitarist and Freddie Mercury was incredible fronting the band. There music appealed to me in different times of my life. Really, how many bands can appeal to you as a child, a young adult and a grizzling aging one?

I liked this song when I first heard it going to summer camp in Florida, my daughter who just turned six likes this song, and her brother who is 16 liked this song when he was young. Take a listen to "Another One Bites the Dust"...

And  the biggest sports anthem...

Obviously I picked Queen to blog about today since the letter in the A to Z: Challenge is Q. Sometimes this blog is just a great exciuse to write about bands or musicians. In my college years, Queen resurfaced to me. The Highlander films were big with the crowd I was hanging out with. The epic sword swinging tale about immortals who could only die if their heads were cut off.The original movie came out while I was in high school but I guess it was kind of a cult classic. Here is the movie trailer...

Okay, I am rambling a bit. Queen provided the music for the films and put out a great album called "A Kind of Magic."  Hence Queen's comeback in my life...

Then there was this song with David Bowie, which still resonates with me in today's world. It was older but thanks to classic rock radio stations it kind of made a comeback 10 years later or so...

Then Freddie passed away. Their was an epic concert. Whioch featured an all-star cast. Elton John, Robert Plant, Axl Rose, and more,,,

Then Queen tried to carry on with Paul Rodgers....

But the original Queen ruled even in Wayne's World...

Well thank you for taking a little journey through my life and Queen. I hope you enjoy and I will be back soon with a new post.

World AIDS Day

It is sad I didn't realize today was World AIDs Day until I read a post on FACEBOOK from HIV survivor and basketball great Magic Johnson. It is almost as if this disease was kind of forgotten about in my world. The majority of the folks I have blogged about in my blog have died from cancer. Cancer is the disease that has effected my family in recent years. It is like cancer has been the elephant in my room and AIDS has been covered up, hidden in a corner.

It shouldn't be hidden! It is not a disease which should be hidden or forgotten about. It is a dangerous disease which needs to be cured. In the main time people should take steps to protect themselves, test themselves, and help prevent the spread of AIDs. It is something that people shouldn't be made fun of for having, it is a medical condition, it is something that should be treated and folks with it should be strong and lifted up with love, prayers, and thought.

In my lifetime we lost a great singer and perhaps the greatest rock frontmen of all time in Freddie Mercury

I cover music, theater, sports and entertainment a world that has had its share of AIDs losses.

Magic Johnson is an example of someone living with HIV and making a difference...

And many have died in the the theater world. I was lucky enough to see Lonely Planet which dealt with the AIDs epidemic earlier this year. You can read that review here. Hopefully AIDs/HIV will be wiped out! One can hope.

Happy Birthday Freddie!

Even though Freddie Mercury passed away too soon he left us a lot of great songs. I wished I would have seen Queen in concert. I first got introduced to Queen by their song "Another One Bites the Dust" when I was a pre-teen child. The summer I went to summer camp and would listen to the rock and roll from the counselors, the good stuff like AC/DC "Dirty Deeds."  Funny I liked the song as kid then my step son liked the song as a kid and now my daughter likes it. Take a listen yourself...

Then of course there is "We are the Champions" I think I have heard that one at a sporting event or two...

Of course in college Queen was even more relevant with the cult following of the "Highlander" films. Queen did a soundtrack of sorts for the movie called "It's a Kinda Magic" which has to be one of the better albums ever made...

Thankfully we live in a digital age were music, videos and memories live on. We  can still celebrate an artists music and say thanks for the music.
