This blog spot is the home to my ramblings. I am a free lance writer. Most of my work goes on Associated Content. Sometimes I write what is on my mind, sometimes I plug some of my writing, and sometimes a combination of the two. So, sit back read, enjoy, and we will see where it goes.
Deep Purple and Robert Plant were pitted together in a battle over Love's "7 and 7 Is." Strange song, hard rockers and a close Battle. Deep Purple edged out a win 3-2. The loser actually sang the song in October's battle and the guitarist in this line up of Deep Purple was the loser in that battle.
"Perfect Strangers" sounds good with all those degrees of separation.
"Highway Star"
Well, I'll be back with a fresh battle on December 1!
Welcome to another episode of Monday's Music Moves Me. This a bloghop. If you want to see who else is playing or sign up to join the fun you can visit this site. I hope your minds are open to let your feet dance in this genre bending and swapping event. Today's theme is unconventional duets. The theme was Stacy's idea.
Robert Plant and Alison Krauss
Robert Plant will always be known as the singer from the legendary rock group Led Zeppelin. Alison Krauss is gifted with a beautiful voice whose music falls in somewhere in the contemporary bluegrass, country, category. The two musicians came together for a platinum selling, multi-Grammy Award winning album.
"GONE, GONE, GONE"
U2 AND BB KING
U2, the Irish Rock Band who fills stadiums with their tours, is quite different from blues legend BB King. However, they got together for a few songs and had some success.
"When Love Comes to Town"
Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney
A Beatle and the King of Pop together.
"Say, Say, Say"
Is Paul McCartney and the surviving members of Nirvana more unconventional?
Paul and Nirvana
"Cut Me Some Slack"
Taylor Swift and Def Leppard
Taylor Swift went from a Country Artist to become a Pop Empire. Somewhere along the way she teamed up with these rockers...
"Pour Some Sugar on Me"
I could go on and on but I think I will leave you with these five.
The Battle of The Morning Dew was tight coming down to the last vote. Tim Rose took a 4 to 2 lead but that lead was not safe. Bonnie Dobson wins 5-4.
Here is Bonnie performing the song more recently with Robert Plant...
Bonnie wrote the song. She signed an agreement with Tim Rose when he recorded the song. She was expecting bigger changes and the changes were minor. She never met Tim and apparently has questioned his credentials. However she does get the majority of the royalties.
Her other big song "I'm Your Woman"
"Light of Love"
I will be back with a new battle on November 1. Thank you for voting and visiting.
This week's theme on Monday's Music Moves Me is a freebie. I thought since last week's theme of songs with numbers in the title was fun I would continue on since I only got to 5.
Let's start the dance off with 6 and 7...
Robert Plant "Sixes and Sevens"
The Beatles "Eight Days a Week"
Follow the Beatles with a solo song from George Harrison "Cloud Nine"
Today is Robert Plant's 69th birthday. When we celebrate a musician's birthday on my blog that means plenty of music and today will be no exception.
Last week Robert Plant gave us the presents by announcing an upcoming release and sharing the first single from that album. Here it is for your enjoyment..
"The May Queen" from Carry Fire which will be released October 13, 2017
Working down his career here is "Rainbow" from his previous release..
From the Band Joy..."The Only Sound that Matters"
Yes he was in another Band of Joy "For What it's Worth"
Robert Plant with Alison Krauss...
"Shine it all Around" from Mighty Rearranger"
"When the World Was Young" with Jimmy Page
From 1993 "Calling to You"
"Tie Dye on the Highway"
"Ship of Fools"
I could go on three more solo albums, The Honeydrippers before I even get to that Led Zeppelin Band. Well I hope you enjoy these and I will be back with a Monday Music Moves Me post.
The results of my Christmas battle of the Band are in a few days before Christmas like an early Christmas gift. In reality this one was decided early and often. Marry Burris was the only one to vote for U2. The next nine went to Vertical Horizon.
Some truly liked Vertical Horizons and some just did not like U2.
Here is another Christmas song from Vertical Horizon "The Man Who Would be Santa"
"Everything You Want"
I figured I wouldn't go all Christmas on this post as the above video shows.
Now how do I make U2 better...maybe add Robert Plant and have them do Led Zeppelin songs?
Oh well, I am sure I will post something in here before the New Year's and I will be back on New Year's Day for a New Battle of the Bands. Hope you have wonderful Holidays!
I had mentioned I was able to catch a couple of shows this month and someone had commented on who I had seen. Well to start the month I caught Robert Plant in Mobile, Alabama. My friends and family knew I was going to catch this tour the mystery was where I was going to catch it. I chose the venue nearest my home.
Artwork outside the Saenger Theatre in Mobile...
I ended up with great seats..my view
The opening band was The Sonics which my Battle of the Bands friends may recognize from this post.
The Sonics in action..
Of course I was there to see this guy..
I am sorry I didn't catch another show on this tour since Robert Plant is mixing up set list on this tour. The pictures were taken by me, if you use them it would b cool if you gave me credit.
My thoughts on the show. He has stretched the songs making them more psychedelic. I liked his version of "That's The Way" the best.
The setlist included six Led Zeppelin covers and a few blues covers as well that teased Zeppelin. Only 4 songs were from solo albums. While his takes on his old band are bold and adventurist, I would have liked him to have performed more solo songs. However, the show was a fun time!
Welcome to Battle of the Bands today's battle was going to be a tribute to David Bowie. I had the songs selected but then I had to go run a family member to urgent care. Nothing life threatening just something that had to be taken care. When I came back someone else was already using the song, so here I am back at square one.
The rules are simple I pick a song and present a couple of bands battling it out with the song. You pick the one you like best by casting your vote in the comments. The whys and other comments are always welcomed.

The Song "Louie, Louie" here is the original by Richard Berry...
Most of you know the song from this version by The Kingsmen...
Due to the popularity of that version I decided not to use it in the contest. Contestant One: The Sonics
I picked this 60s garage band since I just ordered tickets to see them as they open for Robert Plant. Contestant Two: The Kinks
Two bands from the same era. One a big name, one not as big. Which one do you like the best? Vote in the comments.
One of the greatest songwriters in New Orleans and perhaps the World passed away recently. I paid tribute to him with this post. His songs offer so many choices so I will narrow it down to one.

It's a win win really. They get another visit and they treat you with some more battles featuring cool songs, musicians and bands!
Today's song "Fortune Teller"
Contender One: Robert Plant and Alison Krauss
Contender Two: The Rolling Stones
Short and sweet today. One great song writer. One of the greatest Rock and Roll bands, one of the greatest voices in Rock and the awesome voice of Alison Krauss. I hope you enjoy! It is all up to you, just vote in the comments for the one you like the best! I went to the Fortune Teller and she told me the winner is...stay tuned!
I became a fan of the late, great bluesman John Lee Hooker through Led Zeppelin. Zeppelin woujld add bits of "Boogie Chillen'" on their live versions of "Whole Lotta Love." When I saw Robert Plant when I was 17 he pretty much sealed my fate as a JLH fan when he covered "Dimples."
The original "Boogie Chillen'" ,,,,
I am grateful for the rockers for turning me on to John Lee Hooker because it made me seek him out and actually see him perform before his death. However, this post isn't about the ones that lead me to this musician. It is about the musician John Lee Hooker.
Here he is with "Dimples"...
Here is John Lee Hooker live in the 60's with "Boom, Boom"
Thanks for visiting and letting me tell you how I was turned onto John Lee Hooker and his music. Thank you for letting me share a few perhaps you will become a fan of his. What artists have turned you on to other artists? Feel free to share in the comments. See you soon!
It is the third year in a row I have marked Robert Plant's birthday with a blog post. This time I am dubbing it a celebration. When I mark someone's birthday on the blog I do celebrate their work with some clips so it is not a stretch to call it a celebration.
Robert Plant onstage in 2011 at Constitution Hall in Washington, DC photo by me..
The first time I blogged about his birthday I celebrated John Hiatt's birthday as well. You can enjoy that post here. Here is a link to last year's post. Sharing the links because they contain additional music so you can celebrate a bit longer.
This one is dedicated to my Battle of the Bands friends. They may be thinking "It's been a long tome since I Rocked and Rolled" considering my recent contests in that wonderful blog hop.
Led Zeppelin "Rock and Roll" live from Madison Square Garden...
To those who like my musical blends if late here is Robert Plant with Alison Krauss enjoy.."Killing the Blues"...
More in that in vein but different Robert Plant and the Band of Joy.."Harm's Swift Way"
Something rare from the first Band of Joy before Led Zeppelin.."I Gotta Find My Baby"
From his latest release "Rainbow"...
To some he is a Golden God, to others he was the "Tall Cool One"..
Going to end it with "Thru with the Two Step"
Hope you enjoyed the celebration! What is your favorite Robert Plant song, memory? Feel free to share in the comments. I will be back soon with a new post!
It has been all quiet on the blog side. Work has been very busy in the real world. Any way I thought I would drop in and celebrate Robert Plant's birthday August 20.
He has a new album coming out next month Lullaby and ..The Ceaseless Roar. The exciting thing is it has new songs, not covers. The first since 2005's Mighty ReArranger.
About the new stuff..
The first single from the album done live..
This is a version of Led Zeppelin's "In the Light" covered by Robert Plant at one my all time favorite Robert Plant shows that I have been too!
34 years ago today, the mighty Led Zeppelin played their last official show in Berlin, Germany on July 7, 1980. Here is a recording of the show..
Like the Alpha and Omega Led Zeppelin reached out to perform one of the songs they used to play when they first started "Train Kept-A-Rollin.'" Zeppelin then played a blues rocker in "Nobody's Fault But Mine" followed by the classic "Black Dog."
Kick in a newer song "In the Evening" followed by another classic "The Rain Song" and then play a fun song in "Hot Dog."
Yes the In Thru the Outdoor album was well represented with "All of My Love" and "Trampled Underfoot." Then returning to the blues with "Since, I've Been Loving You."
Then showcase Jimmy Page on "White Summer-Black Mountain Side" before finishing strong with "Kashmir" and the required "Stairway to Heaven." The encore would be "Rock and Roll" and "Whole Lotta Love."
The concert was stripped down. Lengthy stables from the past like "No Quarter," "Dazed and Confused" and Bonham's "Moby Dick were scratched in favor of new material and other gems.
They were rehearsing for a tour of America when John Bonham died and cut the band's career short. Luckily we have recordings to hear what was and what will never be.
