This blog spot is the home to my ramblings. I am a free lance writer. Most of my work goes on Associated Content. Sometimes I write what is on my mind, sometimes I plug some of my writing, and sometimes a combination of the two. So, sit back read, enjoy, and we will see where it goes.
Today July 20, 2015 marks Carlos Santana's birthday and I plan to celebrate his birthday with lots of great music. It is a bonus to have back to back great guitarist birthdays like Brian May and Carlos. So I will open up the music with a song called "Winning."
He has won multiple Grammy Awards, the majority of them coming later in his career with collaborations like this one with Rob Thomas..
As you can see Carlos Santana has been very "smooth" over the years. his career has gone a long way since Woodstock when he performed "Soul Sacrifice"...
Here he is with Michelle Branch with "The Game of Love"..
I hope you enjoyed your visit. I will be back tomorrow with the winners post of my Battle of the Bands post.
Singer Joe Cocker passed away today at the age of 70 due to cancer! A Woodstock veteran, a Grammy Award winning singer and a legendary vocalist who the music world will miss.
From Woodstock to beyond...
Joe Cocker got bye with a little help from his friends...
He could do ballads "You are so Beautiful"
Taking us on a musical journey "Up Where We Belong"
His heart has finally been unchained..
With Eric Clapton he performs "Worried Life Blues"
Joe Cocker was a one of a kind entertainer, who had a distinctive voice, a great career, and leaves behind a great legacy!
I just finished writing a preview for tonight's Crosby, Stills and Nash show at Wolf Trap which you can read here. If you are a fan of the band check out the attached slide show with the article though I can't take credit for the photographs.
I have been lucky enough to see Crosby, Stills and Young twice even though it was like 20 years apart. Funny thing it was at the same venue Wolf Trap. Anyway the last time I watched them I reviewed the show for DC Metro Theater Arts and you can relive the show through my review.
Yes, if you read my blog you know I like to add extras. I am digging some extras to add to this post like this..
That was the encore from the show I reviewed. Below is a song they performed in March of this year..
And one of my favorite songs by them..
If you are going to the show tonight enjoy! If you catch them on the tour I hope you enjoy! If not I hope you enjoyed your visit to my blog.
Joni Mitchell could be the most influential musician of her generation. A huge statement I thought about when I realized today was her 70th birthday. Her catalog stacks up well. Her songs have been covered a lot. I think her songs could compare well with Bob Dylan's songs. I think she herself a bit with her musicianship playing more instruments. Her guitar playing and alternate guitar tunings even influenced Jimmy Page. However, music is not a competition. She is great, she is perhaps under rated, and she is now 70! We celebrate it here with lots of songs...
I really like this song Both Sides Now. A friend of mine turned me onto this song a long time ago and I was lucky enough to see Judy Collins cover it over the summer.
This song might be my favorite Joni Mitchell song..A Case of You..
She is probably best known for this song..
Another favorite..
She never made it to Woodstock but she wrote this..
I could go on and on with her songs. I hope you enjoyed and I will be back soon with a new post.
43 years ago Jimi Hendrix died too soon. He probably died of rock star excess or trying to deal with rock star stress. I say probably because there are other theories out there on his death. Regardless how we died most people would agree 27 is to young.
If you think Jimi Hendrix is just an electric guitar player or you have never heard him play the blues the video below is for you...
When I blog to mark an artist death or mark their birthday I want to celebrate their musical legacy. I really like his version of this song..
Guitar fans always like jams like this,,,
I appreciate his lyrics as well as his guitar playing...
Ravi Shankar who many consider to be the best sitar player in the world died sat the age of 92. He is regarded as the person who introduced the sitar to the West. H was friends and an influence on George Harrison. He performed at the Monterrey Pop Festival, Woodstock and the Concert for Bangladesh. He influenced the world of rock and roll when they search for world music and the music of India.
To the current generation of music fans he may be best known as the father of Norah Jones. HE was a master of Indian classic music, an influence on the world music scene, and a father to two daughters who continue to make music.
I found a tribute to Ravi...
Here he is performing with his daughter Anoushka..
Here is an interview with Ravi and George Harrison
We are grateful Ravi lived a long live and for his musical legacy he left behind. We celebrate his life and talents. Thanks Ravi Shankar and R.I.P.
