Battle of the Bands Results: Sarah McLachlan flies away with it

The Battle of the Bands results for Blackbird are in. Sarah McLachlan flies away with it defeating the legendary folk rockers Crosby, Stills and Nash 4 to 1.

After the win she was found "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy"

Some say the wait for results was "Building a Mystery"

She stated "I Will Remember You"

She was graceful and dedicated "Fallen" to CSN

Apparently CSN had "Sweet Surrender"

I made all that up, but she won 4 to 1.

A to Z Challenge 2019: B is for Birthday

#AtoZChallenge 2019 Tenth Anniversary blogging from A to Z challenge letter

Today is my Mom's Birthday! If my Mother is following my blog Happy Birthday!

Here is a song for you..

Plenty of B's to go around with The Beatles "Birthday"

Over the years my Mom has bought me concert tickets and has even gone to concerts with me. One of those artists was B.B. King.

"The Thrill is Gone"

I was lucky enough to see B.B. King several times and I was lucky enough to have seen one of those concerts with my Mom. Thanks for visiting and I will be back with a new post soon.

75 Years of Jerry Garcia

Today is Jerry Garcia's birthday. It marks 75 years since he was born.  He passed away at 53 and something beautiful has been missing ever since.

I'm going to share songs from throughout his career. Music talks better.

If you want more, I suggest going t o the movies today. They are bringing a vintage concert to the big screen. You can catch Jerry and the Grateful Dead one more time. Information here.

Happy Birthday Jeff Beck!

I can't believe I haven't written a Jeff Beck happy birthday post  before. He is probably my favorite guitarist. He has a distinct sound that I can almost recognize every time and say that's Jeff Beck.

"Somewhere Over the Rainbow"

He is probably most famous for his version of "People Get Ready"

I have to give the two time Rock and Roll  Hall of Fame member credit he is always pushing the envelope and is never satisfied resting on his past accomplishments.

Here he is back in 1965 with the Yardbirds...

Here he is with "Where were you"

Jeff Beck has won 5 Grammy Awards including one for this Beatles' cover...

I could go on and on. However, I think it is best to let you discover..

Turned my Daughter's Birthday Party into an article

Just got back from another road trip. Thought I would share another article I had published during the A to Z challenge. The assignment was to write an article on how to throw a birthday party for a young girl. So, I wrote one called How I Had a Birthday Party for a 7-year-old-girl for under $150. It is a true article and hopefully it offers some helpful advice.

I had written some other helpful Birthday party articles in December of 2007 and January 2008. They were pretty much top ten lists of places to throw a party in Chicago and Dallas. Who knows maybe I will write some more articles on birthdays in the future.

Happy Birthday George Harrison

Today would have been George Harrison's 70th birthday. He was the one Beatle that was still alive when I was able to drive that I did not get to see in concert. George didn;t help to much by not touring often. His album "Cloud Nine" grabbed me more than any of the other Beatles' solo stuff. Perhaps a bit of that was due to Jeff Lynne. Perhaps he was a bit cooler in my mind working with The Traveling Wilburys or his friendship with Eric Clapton. Maybe it was as simple as he was in one of the greatest rock bands The Beatles and he was a talented songwriter. Either way, I am a fan of his music. Cancer robbed the world of a great musician too soon.

Here is an All-Star version of "As My Guitar Gently Weeps" from 1987 with Elton John, Ringo, Eric Clapton, Phil Collins and more...

George Harrison performing "Something" from a concert in 1992..

Here he performs a song "When We We're Fab"

Happy Birthday and we miss George!

Happy Birthday Ringo

He wanted a message of hope, peace and love for his birthday. Great things to hold onto if you can find them.

Ringo Starr turned 70 today. I have been fortunate to see him twice with his various All-Star bands. Both along time ago and kind of makes me old. The first time was at Wolf Trap. The All-Stars there included Jack Bruce, then I saw him again in Portsmouth, Virginia with Sheila E and some 80's musician. Real fun shows.

He has to be a proud dad, being able to see his son follow him into the family business of great music and drumming. Zak Starkey the drummer for the Who since 1996. Filling legendary shoes of Keith Moon. He also has to feel proud being part of the Beatles and being able to have a fun solo career.

Cheers and happy birthday!
