Battle of the Bands: Come Monday

It has been a while since I last posted a Battle of the Bands, heck up until late Summer it had been a while since I posted anything. Hopefully some folks will visit and leave a vote in the comments. I will back in a week or so and do a post on the winner just like the Battle of the Bands of old.

Well, it is Labor Day the ceremonial farewell to summer. Don't worry the Calander still says we have a few more weeks of official summer. I live in the Sunshine so I will have Summer like weather until October. Today's pick was easy to go with Jimmy Buffett and his song "Come Monday."

Alright don't vote for the original. Instead vote for one of the one's below.

Contender 1: Kenney Chesney

Contender 2: Brandi Carlile

Vote in the comment on which one you like the best! I think I am going to go hiking in the Sunshine. Enjoy your holiday and I will see you soon!

Battle of the Bands: All My Tears

I've used a Julie Miller song before. As I recall some (most) didn't like her vocals. We like different things. Apology or warning. Well with that on with the program.

The song: All My Tears

All right the contestants.

Contestant One: Buddy Miller

I think this is the first time I have featured a songwriter's spouse as a contestant. Buddy is her husband.

Contestant Two: Jamey Johnson

You know the way it works. I pick a song. You tell me which one you like the best in the comments. I count them up and announce the winner in week, before the Winter Solstice, before Christmas, or before the next Battle.

He was a two time All Star baseball player in the Negro leagues. In 1956 he was was drafted into the Army. Battle of the Bands: Trashy Woman

You probably couldn't write a song like this these days. I was travelling time and space on the back roads of my mind. Stopped in at a Honkey Tonk along the way. Put a few quarters in the juke box and ordered a beer. The selections weren't politically correct and the beer wasn't fancy. That's where I find myself as September roles in for the Battle of the Band. Seeing "friends in low places" looking out at the woman a little on the trashy side.

The original  Chris Wall "Trashy Woman"

Well you know the drill, I will post two contenders. You pick your favorite in the comments, I count them and post the results in a week or so.

Contender One Jerry Jeff Walker

Contender Two: Confederate Railroad

Hope you enjoy and see you soon!

Battle of the Bands: Brothers, Outlaws and Riders

On my last Battle of the Bands I paid tribute to Chris Cornell. This time I am paying tribute to Gregg Allman. The song I selected has been used to pay tribute to Gregg from a ton of artists. Jimmy Buffett played a bit of the song as a tribute when I saw him earlier this month. It isn't the song I wanted to use, but I do like the match up I came up with.

Oh the song is:  "Midnight Rider"

How it works: I post two versions of the songs. You listen to the songs and let me know which one you thought was the best in the comments. I count up the votes and announce a winner at a later date.

If you enjoyed this battles check out my friends who are participating. The best list is at this blog.

Contestant One: Willie Nelson

Contestant Two: Waylon Jennings

Waylon or Willie? Which cover do you like best? A tribute Battle featuring Brothers, Outlaws and Riders. I hope you enjoy and I will see you soon!

R.I.P. Holly Dunn

November has not been a good month for singer songwriters. This time around Holly Dunn who had eight top ten singles has passed away at the age of 59. She lost her battle with cancer.

She is probably best known for this song that peaked at number seven on the Country charts "Daddy's Hands"..

Dunn had two singles that topped the Country Charts. This one called "Are You Ever Gonna Love Me"

The other number one was "You Really Had Me Going"...

Dunn had retired from music to devote more time for her other passion art. She is an artist who will be missed.

Happy Birthday Brad Paisley

Today we are going Country on this fine Rocktober day! I am  willing to invite Brad Paisley to the party. I was thinking about blogging about him since i read his book this month. Today being Brad's birthday just pushed me over the edge.

He is a "Celebrity" you know..

His book was a fun read "Diary of a Player." It was a unique twist to the music biography as Brad tips his hats to musical friends and influence who made him into the guitar player he is today.

Diary of a Player: How My Musical Heroes Made a Guitar Man Out of Me

Here is his latest single "Today"...

Brad and Keith Urban "Start a Band"...

A little guitar geek piece thrown in..

"Mud on the Tires"

Hope you enjoyed your visit! I'll be back soon with a new post!
