Battle of the Bands Results: These Days

Between Nico's version and Gregg Allman's version Jackson Browne changed the arrangement of These Days. I am just amazed Jackson Browne wrote this song when he was 16.

Enough trivia lets get to the results. Gregg Allman won three votes to one. In a week I will be putting up a new battle. In the mean time we celebrate Gregg Allman.

   "Come and Go Blues"

"I'm No Angel"

and here Gregg performs "These Days" with Jackson Browne

I hope you enjoyed the Battle stay tuned for my next Battle on the 15th!

Battle of the Bands: These Days

Happy New Year! I made it through December and 2020. I'm still doing the Battle of the Bands, Still doing it the old fashioned way and I'm still finding songs. I found this song probably in 2019, I may have heard it before but it stuck around with me.

The song is "These Days" written by Jackson Browne

The rules are simple, I pick a song in this case "These Days,"  then I select a couple of covers. You listen to the covers and tell me which one you like the best in the comments. I count out the votes and post a winner in a week or so in a new post.

Contestant One: Nico

Contestant Two: Gregg Allman

I hope you enjoyed the battle and I will see you again soon!

Battle of the Bands Results: An Outlaw Won

Another close battle on my Battle of the Bands battle but not a tie.

Willie Nelson versus Waylon Jennings in a tribute to Gregg Allman of the Allman Brothers Band. Jam Bands, Southern Rock and Outlaw Country combining for this battle. Yes, I have a musical blender I throw song titles in and boom I my battle is created.

The Battle was streaky but Waylon Jennings prevailed 5 to 3.

We celebrate winners so hold on for some music!

Some people say that about me, but continuing on..

It is all about "Honkey Tonk Heroes"

and a shout out to Texas..

Stay tuned for a new Battle on July 1.

Battle of the Bands: Brothers, Outlaws and Riders

On my last Battle of the Bands I paid tribute to Chris Cornell. This time I am paying tribute to Gregg Allman. The song I selected has been used to pay tribute to Gregg from a ton of artists. Jimmy Buffett played a bit of the song as a tribute when I saw him earlier this month. It isn't the song I wanted to use, but I do like the match up I came up with.

Oh the song is:  "Midnight Rider"

How it works: I post two versions of the songs. You listen to the songs and let me know which one you thought was the best in the comments. I count up the votes and announce a winner at a later date.

If you enjoyed this battles check out my friends who are participating. The best list is at this blog.

Contestant One: Willie Nelson

Contestant Two: Waylon Jennings

Waylon or Willie? Which cover do you like best? A tribute Battle featuring Brothers, Outlaws and Riders. I hope you enjoy and I will see you soon!

R.I.P Gregg Allman

Gregg Allman a legend of Southern Rock, songwriter, co-founder, organist, singer for the Allman Brothers passed away yesterday. I was able to see the Allman Brothers a couple of times when I went to the Wannee Festival in 2011. I am a fan and have covered many musicians with a closs connection to Gregg Allman. Like many I am saddened by this news.

Perhaps my favorite Gregg Allman solo tune..."I'm No Angel"

Here is an encore for one of the shows I saw the Allman Brothers at..

"No One to Run With" is one of my favorites from the 90s...

There are many classics like "Midnight Rider"

Gregg Allman "Come and Go Blues"

What are your favorite Gregg Allman songs? Favorite Allman Brothers songs? Any memories? Feel free to share in the comments.
