Battle of the Bands Result: Black Dog tie

In a battle over the Led Zeppelin song Black Dogs my readers voted three to three in this Heart to Hart decision. Will I do an overtime battle on May 1st or will a go in a different direction? Honestly, I don't know.

The fair thing to do is to celebrate both Beth Hart and Heart.

"Bad Woman Blues" from Beth Hart

Heart "Barracuda"

Tune in on May 1st for another Battle of the Bands.

Battle of the Bands: Black Dog Hart Vs Heart

Contender One: Beth Hart

Contender Two: Heart

Tell me which version you liked the best in the comments Beth Hart or Heart. I count the votes and in about a week or so I announce the winner in a new post. Hope you enjoyed the battle.

R.I.P Taylor Hawkins

The drummer of the Foo Fighters has passed away at the age of 50. Confirmed by the band and numerous media reports. Cause of death hasn't been revealed.

In this clip the Foo Fighters are joined by John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin. Dave Grohl plays drum and Taylor gets to front the band on "Rock and Roll."

Here Taylor does a drum solo...

The Foo Fighters "The Pretender"

The news was shocking. I had fallen asleep earlier and woke up to the sad news. The drummer will be missed by fans, friends, his band and family may he rest in peace.

Battle of the Bands: Getting the Led Out for Rocktober

Welcome to October, often referred to Rocktober. I haven't rocked out in a Battle of the Bands for a while. I love Rock and Roll, I just enjoy other music as well. I enjoy throwing in twists and bouncing genres during the battles. Let's go with a little Led Zeppelin.

This time around it is "Heartbreaker" off of Led  Zeppelin II...

Next I have two contenders. Hopefully you will give them a listen and tell me which version you like best in the comments. I count those as votes and announce a winner in about a week. It is really pretty simple. Today I am pitting two guitarists against each other Alvin Youngblood Hart versus Steve Morse I hope you enjoy!

 Contender One: Alvin Youngblood Hart

Contender Two: Steve Morse

Battle of the Bands: Predictable Results on a Stairway to Heaven

I knew Heart's version of Stairway to Heaven would be hard to beat. As Birgit pointed out "They really belted it out in front of Robert Plant no less at the Kennedy Center Honors ."  I will add in front of Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones too!

I'm not sure this version from the last time they reunited would have won?

I felt Mary J Blige had something. She didn't shorten the song to single length but she tweaked the arrangement to fit her with more of a pop sensitivity that Zeppelin wouldn't have cared about. She also brought in her all stars.

In the end Heart prevailed 5 to 2, but Mary J Blige did challenge. I'm glad the voters returned for this Battle.

Here Heart does their version of "Black Dog"

"Barracuda"

I'll be back on the 1st with a brand new Battle.  I have 10 days to think of something.
Come back and vote on the new Battle and tell your friends!

Battle of the Bands: Stairway to Heaven

I most have lost my mind taking an epic, masterpiece like Stairway to Heaven and use it on a Battle of the Bands. It's worse than playing the song in a guitar store. What's worse is one of the cover versions I plan to use many regard as the best one. So this nut job of a blogger thinks he has a version that can compete! Well I think I have one. What I think and how the votes come in can be quite different. I've had nail biters, ties, blowouts, and shutouts so let's start this riot.

Since the song is pretty long I am not going to dig out the original. I'm pretty sure everyone has probably heard Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven.  If you haven't go check out their fourth album.

Heart with Jason Bonham

Mary J Blige

Mary like Heart has some help on this song. Mary has the guitars of Steve Vai and Orianthi.

Heart or Mary. Let me know in the comments. I'll write about the winner in a week or so.

Rocktober Time to Catch Up 3 Posts Behind Sickness

The combination of getting older, stress has given me the opportunity to get new ailments that I have never had before. Lucky me! So I am under the weather. Nothing too serious! Something that will pass but not a lot of fun to have.

So let's catch up with a sickness theme!

Disturbed with my diagnosis..."Down with the Sickness"

Led Zeppelin reminding me I'm "Sick Again"

No Ted it isn't "Cat Scratch Fever" though I have had it before.

Blogging from A to Z: Zeppelin, Led Zeppelin

I'm a bad influence on my Mom! At least on her music. My Mom likes Led Zeppelin. I already wrote about going to see Robert Plant with her. I've also seen her post a video for "Stairway to Heaven" on her facebook feed.

She has posted about Robert Plant on Austin City Limits. Of course my theme about my mom was done with a "Whole Lotta Love"

Keeping it short as I finish the challenge!

Led Zeppelin "The Rain Song"

I'm all over the place "Singing in the Rain" by Gene Kelly

Some people are "Only Happy When it Rains" (Garbage)

Blue Rodeo "Rain Down On Me"

B.J. Thomas "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head"

Hope you enjoyed and I will see you soon!

Battle of the Bands Results: A Whole Lotta Tie?

Battle of the Bands ended in a tie 4 votes for Tina and 4 votes for Prince. Tina Turner and Prince aren't exactly the artist you expect to break out the Led! So, I will probably do an overtime battle more than likely in May. The A to Z challenge is coming and I might want to work my Battles into that.

Short and sweet today!

Battle of the Bands 103:Late Night Love

I'm running a little late to the Battle of the Bands party. Don't worry I made it! I think we all need a "Whole Lotta Love." Led Zeppelin certainly twisted an old blues tune into a heavy, acid rock show  stopping number.

Now I've picked a couple of musical superstars to see if we can twist and warp this song some more! I mean how do you like your late night love? If you like it dirty, nasty, with some soul I might have something for you! Insane with some funk. A woman with great legs and a love sexy man competing at it under the spotlight. No I haven't suddenly found my passion for writing erotica.  I'm talking Tina Turner versus Prince covering Led Zeppelin!

Contestant One: Tina Turner

Contestant Two: Prince

Whose "love" do you like the best? Tina Turner's funky version or the guitar crazy version by Prince. Two artist you might not expect to cover Led Zeppelin but they certainly added their touches to this song. Vote for your favorite in the comments and I will tally the votes and announce the winner in a week or so.

Battle of the Bands: Stones beat out Zep in Blues Battle

My last Battle of the Bands featured two of the biggest bands in Rock history the Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin. Zeppelin's version of the song came from the prime of their career. The Stones version came from their latest release. The Stones were aided on their version by some lead guitar from Eric Clapton. In the end the old Stones beat the mighty Zeppelin 5 to 2.

Celebrating the winner! Here are some other blues by the Rolling Stones.

"Little Red Rooster"

"Love in Vain"

"Hoochie Coochie Man" with Muddy Waters..

"Midnight Rambler"

I will have a new battle on the 15th!  Thanks for visiting and stay tuned.

Battle of the Bands: I Can't Quit You, Baby!

Welcome to my Battle of the Bands battle for Rocktober 1st! I am picking a blues tune by Otis Rush who passed away over the weekend. The song was written by Willie Dixon.

In case you need a reference here is the original...

I will pit two bands against one another. You vote for which version you like best in the comments and I count the votes and announce a winner.

The Rolling Stones

Led Zeppelin

A nice way to pay respects to an influential bluesman and kick off Rocktober in style with two of the biggest Rock and Roll Bands of all time.
